For the sake of info this is Fiore Ciminello, an Argentine Tiktok user who was getting surgery to correct a deviated septum, not a nose job. She posted a video making a nose job joke, and the Internet got whooshed and took it seriously.

August Weismann figured this out quite a while ago.

(And Mendel, but he didn’t do “body mods.”)

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

They cut out the last line

They will be born with a perfect nose on their mother that they can inherit when she passes

But you can't stop with the nose! Get the biggest cheek bones you can imagine, lose 25 pounds, and look like Skeletor with skin! It isn't cheap to look this bad...

See, here’s where your wrong. All those “Mar a lago face” people? Those actually ARE lizard people in human skins. And those human skins are surprisingly affordable

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

When you're ready to stop settling for the cheapest-quality human skins, shoot me a note.

Weight is actually something that can affect the child. There was a study that found that people who were overweight when conceiving had children that were more likely to be overweight, even if they lost weight before birth.

[–] vrek@programming.dev 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

My immediate thought is nature vs nurture... In many cases an overweight person has a life style that causes being overweight. A fit person has a life style that encourages being fit. Do you wake up early to use the gym before work? Do you use the electric scooter at the store so you don't have to walk? Do you eat a dinner of fresh vegetables, a starch, and a piece of meat? Do you throw a box of corn dogs in the microwave for 2 minutes as dinner?

These probably influence if the child will be over weight a lot more.

even if they lost weight before birth.

[–] vrek@programming.dev 1 points 2 hours ago

Yeah but did the habits that caused the weight lose stay? How many people go on a diet, lose weight and then gain it all back? How full are the gyms in January vs may?

Let them make their choices and let's not judge them.

If anything this will work in REVERSE.

If she has several children as a result of her now superior adaptation skills, they may have the same genetic abnormalities with their noses. But hey, they will know the fix, right?

Rhinoplastic Surgeons love this thought process!

Lamarckian evolution just won’t die, will it?

[–] Brummbaer@pawb.social 2 points 2 hours ago

With enough malice and ignorance you can repurpose epigenetics to fit the Lamarckian model.
