Schools are a grest lesson in institutional power.

When the institution has the ability to implement whatever it wants on those within it, it will put massive inconveniences on them to save on the smallest inconveniences for itself.

Presumably they thought shorts didn't look smart enough on the kids, and so implemented a rule without considering (or caring) what effects it had beyond those it intended.

I used to work for a manager who approached me one day to inform me that wearing shorts and flip flops to work was inappropriate.

I was working as a software engineer, I didn’t interact with customers, and spent my entire day at the back of the building with other engineers.

I asked if I could wear skirts and open toe heels like the woman in our office. He made it clear that wouldn’t be tolerated because he “didn’t want to see that.”

[–] Mickey7@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You should have just done it without asking. And then if they complained go to HR and tell them you identify as a woman

Suck his dick to assert dominance

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

Ugh, flip-flops are so much more comfortable than open-toe heels. Whatever the case, dress codes should be abolished. Only grooming & hygiene matter in workplaces & schools.

At least he’s honest

I like wearing skirts. They're comfy and they make my ass look good.

[–] ArchsageRamases@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Me three. Kinda. I actually wear sarongs which are even more comfortable than a western skirt.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

They look pretty comfortable.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 36 points 6 days ago (3 children)

i wonder how many of them figured out they were into that 🐣

[–] SpacePanda@mander.xyz 46 points 6 days ago (5 children)

I wish it was more socially acceptable for men to wear a skirt. probably keep your niblets abit cooler.

[–] Medic8eme@piefed.ca 44 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Old man here. I wear a kilt every day, I don't even own pants anymore. I call it a skirt because it makes other people uncomfortable in the best sort of way. Fuck 'em if they don't like it.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

As a male skirt enjoyer, you're my hero.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

I'm a kilt person too. I have zero problems calling it a skirt for the same reason.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Tightly whities or freeballing?

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago

Just call it a kilt, end of discussion.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Quite literally why kilts, the Arabic Thawb, etc are a thing, it is the superior form for mobility and temperature regulation.

Weird western purtian ideals made pants/trousers the social norm, which only make sense in cold winter climates.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Now I know what the garment is, that's called thawb.
Neat to know.

Besides

which only make sense in cold winter climates.

Guess where GB and most of west-nothern europe is located climate-wise.
In Germany, the time which could make a skirt useful, are about 1-2.5 months out of 12 months.
Every other day outside of late June to early September are cold, wet and uncomfortable.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 11 points 6 days ago

The only thing that matters is that it's socially acceptable to yourself.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

As a dude (albeit a queer one) with a lot going on down there.. I wear ankle length skirts in the summer time all the time. Super comfortable, doesn't stick to my legs like pants do, still get the breeze passing over me like shorts do, and my junk breathes like it is inhaling oxygen for fun.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sort of interested how that looks.
Are you comfortable with posting a pic just from below?

If not I have two questions (if you don't fel comfortable, it's totally fine to not respond):

  • Do you have hairy legs or a very noticeable hair color (e.g. dark hair)
  • Is your body build muscular or lean
  • Is your body build leaning femine, masculine or androgyn?
[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't mind at all. You can't really see much which is my intention. I have a severe anxiety so my skin mostly covered up is extremely comforting to me.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Hehe thank you! ;)

[–] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The school producing another generation of femboys.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

As one should.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

People aren't born with clothing attached; most of human history exists outside of pants.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

these are children can we not

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Does a boy wearing a skirt make you uncomfortable?

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

no, the "wonder how many of them were into that" comment bothers me. A lot.

alongside an "egg" which implies they were trans and masking

congrats on calling a bunch of kids trans for wearing skirts

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I see so you're just a bigot.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Ehh...The implication can be interpreted a bit weird if you want to (depending on the world view and upbringing)
Just a "good for them" and "I applaude them protesting by overcoming gender norms" are IMO better than the ones we are discussing right now.

I am neutral about it but see both sides as valid points.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

So you tolerate intolerance, and are therefore just as intolerant.

[–] timestatic@feddit.org 3 points 4 days ago

How is it intolerant to say that wearing a skirt doesn't really need to have anything to do with gender? In this case it was since it was more comfortable in the heatwave and as a form of protest.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago

My tendency is leaning towards your argument.
But I see both sides as valid arguments.
Not everything is black and white.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 27 points 6 days ago

As a kilt person I support this. Even if it is a years old story.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago

Not much interested in wearing skirts.
But those look honestly kinda cool (heh. Cool because they are breathable in summer) and they rock it very well.

If this happened in Scotland they would call then kilts.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Skirts are for everyone. They are functional. help with swamp ass, allow for easy leg movement and assert dominance if the fabric pattern is bold.

Only real downside is chub rub if you got thick thighs. They make thigh covers for that though.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago
[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

This a good post. I won't narc on you tho.

[–] theloneyank@slrpnk.net -1 points 5 days ago
