Donald Trump announced Sunday that Republicans plan to dispense a large “Election Integrity Army” to every single state for the 2026 midterms – invoking his debunked claims that the United States does not have fair elections.

In a message on his Truth Social platform the president appeared to attribute his “Historic Election in 2024” to the fact that the Republican National Committee sent thousands of volunteers across the country to poll watch or assist with election litigation through a volunteer program.

So at what point can we consider the USA to be no longer democratic at all? It has already been downgraded from being a liberal democracy.

So, poll watchers? A thing we already have?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

No, guys with guns to make sure you vote the right way.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world -1 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Not at my polling location they won't. Have you signed up to be an election judge yet?

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

Why aren't they going to your location?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The president says yes, you say no. Which one do you think determines whether armed goons show up? Can you tell me why "not at my polling location they won't"?

Friendly reminder that not everyone on the internet is American, and in fact most aren't.

If you're not a poll worker and not even American, I'm not gonna listen to you tell me how elections in America work. I and thousands of others like me are the ones who run them.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 34 minutes ago (1 children)

I'm a poll worker and American. Can you answer that question?

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 1 points 25 minutes ago

And do you plan on rolling over if anyone tries to interfere with voters at your polling place or do you plan on doing your job?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Yep, I am sure my historical heritage has no relevance in how elections can be suspended.

Good luck!

[–] MisterD@lemmy.ca 81 points 21 hours ago (9 children)

FYI it's illegal to post soldiers at polling stations in the US

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

Tell the police

[–] xxam925@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago

lol.

Are you ready to shoot over it? Because ain’t nobody saving us but us.

[–] treehugger6@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, and they know it, but they don't care. They believe in the might is right. People need to wake up. The rule of law is over.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 4 points 12 hours ago

If we can't place our ballots, we'll have to vote with bullets. Of course that's what they think they want.

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 63 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Show me one example of trump giving a fuck about the legality of something he wants

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Tariffs were overturned by the Supreme Court.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I guess this will also get overturned after six months.

Election will not get redone, but everyone will be very sorry and promise not to do it again.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Have you signed up to be a poll worker yet?

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 40 minutes ago

Why are you asking this question over and over?

[–] disorderly@lemmy.world 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

As an alternative we'll accept someone holding him accountable for an illegal action.

A few have tried, one came close.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 24 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It won’t be soldiers. It’ll be Proud Boys and your local bigot embracing the opportunity to harass women, minorities, LGBTQ (or people they assume are)… basically anyone that doesn’t look MAGA material. It’s an open call for mob intimidation under the auspices of “protecting election integrity”.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 2 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Armed law enforcement, military, or paramilitary would be an issue, but that's not going to happen, despite their threats.

But local numbnuts like Proud Boys and such? Bring it on. I'm happy to bring a few extra baseball bats and construction implements to share with my friends.

But that won't happen either. Proud Boy types are all cowards who need a gang, and we far outnumber them, and they know it. Notice we haven't heard from them since Jan 6. They'll show up to an Insurrection, with lots of support, but they won't go anywhere where they'll be outnumbered.

The polls will be fine on Election Day, but don't use them unless you have to. All Lefties should do early voting (very convenient) or mail-in. Let the Traitors show up to intimidate their own cowardly voters.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

We haven't heard from them because they work for ice now. News about ice is news about Christian nationalists.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

There’s about a dozen states that currently have “no excuse” requirements for absentee ballots, meaning you have to jump through hoops to be able to mail-in instead of vote in person. I’ll let you guess which side of the civil war most of these states were on.

One of my concerns about mail-in ballots, under this administration specifically, is the recent demand for state voter rolls. I’ve lost so much faith in election integrity that I no longer trust that the postal service isn’t an intercept for opposition ballots to get “misplaced”. Ballot tracking exists, but there’s enough bureaucracy that they could do anything from deliberately postmark it too late to acknowledge they received it but create some other excuse as to why it was invalid. Then it’s on you to fight to make it count but the system is stacked against you.

As for what I actually think poll harassment will look like? Less armed militia and more like thugs camped in front of a Planned Parenthood or the flag-waving goons who roll coal up and down the side streets when a protest is happening. They’ll make their presence known while tip-toeing interference but even if they cross the line your local PD knows which side they’re on and allows it but would swoop if leftists showed up to put themselves in-between the bullies and the people voting.

I think we should be planning how we can support our most vulnerable community members when it’s time to vote. It’s understandable if not everyone has the courage to potentially run a gauntlet of intimidation alone, and they shouldn’t have to to exercise their right. But this is currently the state of the US, and if people would feel safer with a group we should find ways to support and be there for them. Plus we should be watching for attempts to hide polling places, last minute relocations, and deliberate bureaucratic delay at the polls designed to turn what should be an in and out into a half day marathon people abandon because their lunch break is ending.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I agree with most of what you say, but we should still avail ourselves of whatever voting options we have, just to keep them alive, and to ease stress on the polling places on Election Day.

I agree about the potential for USPS to interfere with mail-in voting but that hurts MAGA more than anyone else. Older people, one of MAGAs most reliable demographics, use mail-in votes more than any other. Get rid of mail-ins, and you cut off a significant portion of the vote.

All of their suppression tactics are meant to have a single digit impact on voting, sometimes less, and they count on the cumulative effect of all their disparate strategies to give them the edge they need. They can't afford to surrender any strategy that works in their favor.

As for Y'all Qaedas cruising past with giant Trump flags hanging off their tiny dick compensating trucks, who cares? Let them have their fun, it's already falling apart, and it's all going to come crashing down soon. Even if Dems can't be courageous enough to destroy MAGA, MAGA will eventually destroy itself through it's virtuosic incompetence.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

My only challenge to your thoughts on the attitude about not giving a fuck about the hicks in their trucks trying to intimidate others. You are correct that a lot of them are blowhards, cowards, bullies, and don’t actually want confrontation unless they know they have an advantage. As a white, middle aged dude, I know I have the benefit of centuries of white male privilege and that I’m the kind of person most of these chumps aren’t going to do jack shit towards unless they have numbers. Unless I wear my “Nazi Lives Don’t Matter” shirt or some other leftist signaling attire, a lot of them probably assume I’m one of them.

What I don’t know however, is what it’s like to be a woman, a minority, a special needs person, an immigrant, or a trans person. I can listen to their experiences and concerns, try and put myself in their shoes, but I’ll never really know. Sometimes our ability to be able to ignore the bullies comes from the benefit of having the same privileges as the bullies. The goal should be to avoid slipping into white, male saviorism, but for lefties in America that have the privilege the system has built, use it to support those who don’t when we can while we work towards tearing it down together.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 2 points 8 hours ago

Extremely valid. Good post.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 19 points 21 hours ago

Legality doesn't seem to be an issue for the current administration.

Well, we had the chance to save our democracy, and we blew it because of eggs. Say, how's that affordability crisis looking nowadays?

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 10 points 19 hours ago

Paid $4.50/gal for gas at a fucking Costco and my haircut costs 2 times what it did a year ago so I'd say Trump's nailing it ~ elon

More like "election preventing army". Trump and the GOP can no longer afford free and democratic votes.

[–] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 14 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

Really... The world is watching you yankers. At this point. If the un is not controlling your election. We know it's rigged. And you are completely useless. Won't stand up for yourselves. And the sooner we convince our governments of this the best. The USA is over.

[–] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 1 points 13 minutes ago

Thanks for the encouragement. Fuck you too.

[–] Snowies@lemmy.zip 17 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (23 children)

What exactly should random people living paycheck to paycheck do about our entire government being controlled by fascists?

We are already protesting and striking.

Our leaders have failed us. The good ones failed to stand up to the bad ones, and the bad ones are in charge now and control the media, the military, and the Supreme Court.

You want Dave from Burger King and Emmett from Starbucks to resort to guerilla warfare?

Should we be committing harkiri in the streets?

You think you’re angry?

Imagine being here, watching it happen face to face, arguing with a never ending army of brainwashed people who get off on cruelty because they’d rather burn it all down than let immigrants and trans people live in peace.

[–] blackbeans@lemmy.zip 14 points 18 hours ago

To be honest, that's what the American people have always done throughout history. When the elite got out of hand, the people revolted and successfully brought them down. So yes, Dave from Burger King should be there in the streets too. At the biggest anti-Trump protest the US had so far, only 2% of the American people were present. And those who were present waved signs for exactly one day and then went home. That is simply insufficient.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 1 points 11 hours ago

You want Dave from Burger King and Emmett from Starbucks to resort to guerilla warfare?

If we don't purge MAGA from our government and our society, then Dave and Emmett are going to find their jobs replaced by robots, and the jobs they had aspired to beyond that, have been replaced by AI. There are no jobs for them, and never will be. The few human powered jobs left will be done by wealthy Nepo-Babies.

So Dave and Emmett are now part of the 60%+ permanent unemployment rate, which is actually higher, but the government games the stats to make it sound better, as if "only" 60% is acceptable.

So Dave and Emmett won't have much choice but to fight in some way. Either they'll fight in the Rebel Army in the Civil War, or they'll fight to protect their family, but they'll fight one way or another.

If they don't, they'll end up in the extermination camps, where MAGA deals with the lazy chronically unemployed who are dragging down our country.
