The people who put up this sign are surely familiar with the myth of Sisyphus and know that his curse is that the work he must constantly perform is completely pointless, right?

That’s where the expression “Sisyphean labor” comes from - when we mean work that must be repeated over and over with no finishing point or that is doomed to fail...
