Today, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in dozens of cities across the U.S. for International Workers’ Day, which commemorates the struggle waged by workers in Chicago in 1886 for an 8-hour workday. May Day is officially recognized as a holiday in almost all countries across the world, except the United States. In recent years, the labor movement, the immigrant rights movement, environmental groups, and progressive and left groups have organized to make May Day a day of struggle against the billionaire agenda and for the protection of the rights of workers, immigrants, and other oppressed groups.
