Dont think rover would appreciate the tbone quite so much

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

So you wrestle the dog into the canvas...thing...hook it onto the window, and then you have to crank on a couple of giant C-clamps hard enough that they stay attached.

Or you could let the dog in the car.

⬅️Head like a hole

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 12 hours ago

That word "safely" is doing just so much heavy lifting.

[–] Francislewwis@lemmy.world 14 points 15 hours ago

Comfortably is doing Olympic-level work here. That dog looks like he’s one pothole away from writing a memoir.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

To be fair, my dog would fucking love that.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

Just keep it in the neighborhood, around 20 mph.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Why would you even consider not having the dog in the car with you?

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Same reason kids ride in the back of pickup trucks.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

The back of a pickup seems preferable to being strapped to the side of a car in a bag.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Of course, but you know some kid will ride in one if given the chance. Just like pulling an upside down picnic table behind a vehicle. What you shouldn't do and what ends up being fun as hell are different.

That last one is looking at me like he smells I'm holdin...

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 3 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Yeah, but throw him two 'good-boys' & he'll let it slide this time ...

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 8 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Woah, Chief is looking BEEFY over there

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 8 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

~~This one doesn't make the truck drift to the lefthand side~~ ... ohh, it's the same doggo! Did they photo shop the pic (for postcards & sexy dog calendars?) or was the gooboi at some point a lesser gooboi ... but it appears to be the same pic ... maybe just a pose?

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Look at the background behind the windscreen, it has a different angle. So I suppose both pictures were taken at the same photoshoot but with alvery slightly different angles and doggo poses.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

You are right, I saw that (not just the angle but background what is behind the light) but dismissed it bcs I immediately forgot about the background & just concluded that one image got stretched (also def the same day bcs the truck tire didn't move & the thing under the truck is there too).

But the doggo possess - the more upright one is def lacking some heft I think ... Idk, could be just extra fabulous photogenic doggy.

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 2 points 15 hours ago

Maybe doggo just switched from heroic to derp mode. I domit all the time (minus the heroic)

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

He's had the munchies a few too many times. Look at those eyes, he's feeling it now.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago

Why do you think they call him Chief? Bogart was the next option

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 87 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Solid shitpost. My first reaction was anger for the poor dog.

Then I realized there are no airbags or crumple zones, the driver isn't wearing a seatbelt and car pobably doesn't even have one available. The driver is also likely three martinis into his day already and so are most of the other drivers on the road with him. The dog might be actually safer than anyone else here.

[–] Escape13@slrpnk.net 11 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Also there are only 7 cars and they can only go 5km/h as you’ll get delirium furiosum if you go down hill with backwind and make it to 13km/h

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Nah, that's a mid-30 to 40s design. By that point, you could absolutely hit highway speeds if you had open space. Clyde Barrow (yes, Bonnie and Clyde's Clyde) preferred stealing Fords when he was robbing banks in the 30s, because one of the more popular Ford models was a V8, which could hit 60mph and outpace a lot of older police vehicles.

Yes, it's full-steel and the thing will likely decapitate you in a crash if you don't get a steering column through the sternum, but old cars got fast a LOT faster than you think.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago

Right. The dog is well restrained by a flexible sack. Much better than hitting the steering wheel at 40 MPH, when the car careens into an oak tree.

[–] trem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Well, the advantage back then was that far fewer cars were on the road...

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 4 points 19 hours ago

A horse through the windshield is still gonna fuck up your whip.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago

This was designed by a dog.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 107 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Unsafe as fuck, but dogs would LOVE this.

[–] mech@feddit.org 10 points 22 hours ago

Perfect position for a gravel road stoning

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 64 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Lmao it's just S-hooks through the window. One pothole and Fido is in a pile on the Interstate.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Looks like one goes through a door handle and those clamps holding the piece of wood to the car may keep them from rising enough to come out. Still not something I'd do though.

I would, in that car. That thing is cruising the suburbs at a cool 35, mph tops. Perfect for a trip to the park.

[–] titter@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Fairly, the speeds and interconnectivity of the states may have facilitated a safer ride for the pup. That being said safety was largely a third concern over innovation and uniqueness

Until you open the door and decapitate him.

[–] Maiq@piefed.social 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Depends on the dog. Romneys dog shat all over the top of his car. This led to the urban dictionary entry.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Romney

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 10 points 1 day ago

I’d shit on romney’s car, too.

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Depends on the speed you drive.

[–] tresspass@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

Do thry make them Mitt Romney style?

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 46 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I don't understand this political cartoon

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Get a load of this guy not even understanding even the simplest fiat currency analogy.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago

Ha i bet they don't even THEORY

"Damn it, Rover, not again! Why do you keep shitting in the bag?!"

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago

My first thought was: where is the hole for poop?

[–] ArgentRaven@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Think about how easy it most be to get a large dog into a sack, that you then have to move and attach to a car.

So much easier than just having the dog sit in the back seat!

What problem did this solve? Cause I know which ones it creates...

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 2 points 19 hours ago

That's what servants are for

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

...did people not used to love their dogs?

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (4 children)

People didn't think about car safety at all.

A couple of decades before the one in the picture, it actually wasn't a problem. And despite everybody knowing some people that died in an accident by the picture time, nobody connected the dots.
