To narrow it down, it has to be something you will not forgive a country for doing for the rest of your life. Alternatively, you can feel something in great disdain towards the whole world, like what you see universally done or know of.

Mine would be and I strongly use this word because of the practice associated to it, but, the raping of information.

And I say that because it is astonishingly appalling just how distorted information has gotten. With how modern day journalism has been to even half-baked Wikipedia articles that aren't detailed. Even historical accounts aren't entirely safe because they just get revised and re-written at a moment's notice to fit particular narratives or perspectives of others.

The lines of lies and truths are completely blurred, only registered by particular contexts or levels of convenience. It burns my mind up to think some of the time, as to what I should take in for information that isn't just for a purpose of study. I'm so jaded towards anything, I take everything projected with contempt.

Oh, man, where to start? The tribal nature of humanity is a core problem in our psychology that leads to so many different problems in modern society, it’s difficult to even fathom. We just aren’t evolved to live in a society this large. We’re also grossly myopic and don’t act to fix problems that we know are coming but aren’t right in front of us yet. Then there’s the fact that we have advanced science and yet tons of us still subscribe to religion.

I don’t know if contempt for humanity is right phrase for what I feel, but I definitely consider myself a misanthrope. Disappointment might be more accurate.

The way everything has been stupefied. Half of adults can't read or write at a functional level. If they can't read how do they fact check?

I am sure public schools have been deliberately made worse because a dumber population is easier to control.

I just don't know how to prove it.

Nothing, man. Being that upset over something you have no control over takes too much energy for no reward.

The actions of a country's government are not damning of the people who live there. They're usually victims of their government too.

We forgave Germany, and it was the right thing to do.

That being said, I'll never forgive Take 2 for killing KSP2.

The utter depravity of animal agriculture.

How many billions of animals are brought into this world each year just to suffer through absolute shithole conditions and brutal deaths to end up as some shitty truckstop or vending machine sandwich. Or simply thrown out in the trash for any number of reasons.

Aside from the appalling and unfathomable animal cruelty, it is also enormously destructive to the environment.

Continually voting in people who make the rich richer and the rivers more polluted.

they tell people what they want to hear. that's why they get their votes.

try it sometime. if you tell people what they want to hear, they will adore you. if you don't tell they what they want to hear they don't like you, or they may hate you.

[–] Pyrixas@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well it's evolved from that point now.

It's about pressing the right buttons. And we've seen that in complete demonstration. When people were complaining, of all things, about egg prices. Guess what some candidates focused on? Egg prices and how they'll promise to lower them, despite having no understanding or care as to why they were high in price to begin with.

So if you press that button to that crowd, you'll get the idiocy of that crowd to go for you. And this applies to generally any issue from any party.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

yes, but i'm talking even more generally. like... even in your personal social situations... telling people what they want to hear and making them feel heard is how you win them over. it's also why 'charming' people tend to be highly manipulative, because this is how they charm people. and most people can't see past the superficiality of the interactions, because well, they are superficial people.

you alienate them when you try to tell them things they don't want to hear or that might involve them to think or assess their biases. if you tell them real reasons for egg price changes you will confuse them because the explanation will be too complex for them to process because they have no understanding of economics, let alone agricultural economics, and they will just think you're a jerk.

like if your mom complain to you about her neighbors, she doesn't want you to tell her maybe there is a misunderstanding, she wants you to just tell her they are jerks and she's the victim in the situation. she wants you to validate her grievances, not dismiss them or mitigate them.

The existence of billionaires

The idea that countries need to compete with eachother for resources and power and stuff. We're smart enough to put robots on Mars but we're still dumb enough to burn our limited resources fighting eachother to get control of those resources. We really should know better. Especially since we all now know that this bullshit is quickly making our planet uninhabitable for us.

I thought once we had the internet easily available to everyone, the borders would just sorta dissolve as we all understood that people are people everywhere and we can all start trading information, ideas and actual goods directly with eachother, but all thats seemed to happen is amplifying our worst traits and shoving them in our faces round the clock.

We're not going to make it, and as one of the "we" i cant help but feel somehow complicit.

[–] northernlights@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How being a good person never pays off basically. We evolved as individuals, and only individualism pays off in the way our species organized itself. Yet I evolved differently somehow so fuck me?

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

People are generally good. Being a good person despite the state of the world is an reward in and of itself. Your priorities are in the right place and you make the world a better place. Thank you. :)

[–] itkovian@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I don't know if the priorities of our governments were always fucked, or are fucked now. We keep constructing infrastructure as if all construction is good, while polluting our land, water and air. Yet, despite the consequences of our actions are staring us in our faces, our governments refuse to change, as if consequences are not their responsibility anymore.

I see people living like zombies for a monthly paycheck and I ask what is worth this type of terrible life. Not to mention that they still barely afford, either financially or due to time, healthy habits, etc.

I'm angry that there is still poverty in the world. We have the resources to end poverty but society just chooses not to. People like Musk are allowed to hoard money like dragons. Musk and a few other people have more money than they can POSSIBLY use while people are needlessly starving. He could give away millions and still be obscenely wealthy with more money than he can use. Countries could save money by implementing universal basic income but people are stuck on this notion that people won't work unless they're under threat of starvation and that people shouldn't have their basic needs unless they earn them. Capitalist society is set up with the notion that people need to earn the right to live, making those who aren't earning money feel worthless while millionaires are allowed to live without contributing much to society.

Bruh, there's already enough doomerism in c/worldnews, no need for that energy in c/asklemmy

Why people think ai is either the second coming of Christ or the devil. It is software. Not a lot different from when the internet showed up and when smartphones showed up. It is handy for some things, not for all.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

it's a tool.

the problem is that people will use it poorly and use it to fuck each other over. they won't use it to benefit each other.
