Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.

Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.

Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Join the lemmy.ml boycott today and help foster a better Lemmy-verse! No more posts, comments (except to counter their propaganda ofc!) or upvotes on any comms on the Lemmy.ml instance! To make this easy you can do an instance block at Settings > Block Tab > Scroll to bottom > Input "lemmy.ml" and apply

And consider donating to individual instances instead.

Check the megathread for more!

You can see it now very clearly. The meta is massive blocks of text with a dozen citations that must take an incredible amount of time to create, or are being assisted by an LLM. If you don't reply to doubt or trolling with 10,000 words, you ain't really communist.

They've created a Facebook Christian type prosetylization communication style that is both super comfy to members and even more isolating to outsiders. Your knowledge must be doctoral level.

It looks like when bones of the moon would post the sovereign citizen shit. Then if you even slightly call it out you get modded off. So these posts are just paragraphs and paragraphs of replies full of citations replying to deleted comments. It's crazy to see how the echo chamber has progressed over time.

It always surprises me that Lemmy MLs are so incredibly tribal. There's no interest in evangelism or outreach, which baffles me because political change require consent (or lethal violence). Why the hell did they adopt an ActivityPub app if they're so intensely insular?

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Lots of MLs and tankies aren’t interested in doing anything to meaningfully change things. They are content in having special knowledge and insight, and being morally superior. It’s a political cult, including belief in the rapture (revolution) and paradise (communism).

They didn't just adopt a fediverse app, they're building one. They could've just built a single reddit-clone that they could rule with an iron fist, but instead they built a federated app, which is equally usable by anyone who doesn't share their views and actively spreads that content to their instance. Why? As you say, it doesn't seem to be for spreading the good word.

[–] aaa999@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

they talk about controlled opposition and fbi sabotage a lot

but i am convinced that the various flavors of idiot have one thing in common, which is wanting to put lots of effort into not accomplishing goals, wanting to put effort into stopping others from accomplishing goals, and wanting to guilt others into transfering their effort from goals to anti-goals

tankies are a subtype of the this which is why they overlap so much with genocide joe catchphrase people. who gives a shit if they are useful idiots or just the regular kind

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

Because they didn't have the level of control they wanted, or the mechanisms to prevent being censored they wanted, on other social networks.

Federation allows anyone who finds their ideas censored on one community to make their own. If they get censored from an entire instance they can hypothetically spin up their own instance relatively cheaply. As long as a few instances federate with yours, your content can spread pretty damn far.

All the while, within the bounds of your own instance you control it all.

So it's a combination of reach and control.

Once we start the revolution and take over the government buildings, we will have full consent of the people, and well if they don't support it then y'know…

If it wasn't for intellectual dishonesty, Dessalines wouldn't be intellectual at all.

[–] BiteSizedZeitGeist@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

My Lemmy/Threadiverse experience got much better when I blocked lemmy.ml. Not because they're communist, but because they're tremendous jerks. If I become a communist, it won't be because of Dessalines and their disciples.

Honestly, I am not going to defend IntrovertTurtle after he/she/they was being transphobic and defending transphobia in my thread.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Two things can be wrong. Pointing one out isn't defending the other. In fact it makes it worse that there could have been valid reason. But ML gonna ML and be authoritarian, defending the structures of power instead of the people. But I definitely feel you.

[–] pinto@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago

Two things can be true at once! Just because the banned user was a transphobe who deserved the ban, that in no way lessens the absolute travesty of injustice of banning them! In fact, it’s worse to ban people who deserve bans, somehow!

You never let a little thing like reality get in the way of two-minutes hate, do you?

.ml is a sewer. A 3rd world country sewer.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Okay - what team of devs will take over developing ActivityPub threads and Lemmy/Threadiverse?

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

kbin.melroy.org

Isn't that instance using Mbin and not Lemmy, anyway?

I just moved from mbin on an instance with issues over to piefed and I like it well enough so far.

It is - in fact, it's Melroy's own instance (which is why it's still kbin, developed by Ernest). He's developing his platform, yes, but it's the ActivityPub commits that I'm interested in.

[–] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 20 points 3 days ago

The Piefed team is doing fine work on it.

[–] walden@wetshav.ing 17 points 3 days ago

PieFed is really good

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 3 points 3 days ago

I am continually surprised that I haven't been banned from .ml yet.
