Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I want to be someone's dog/bun

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

How do you pronounce "brb"?

[–] Filetternavn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 hours ago

Just by saying the letters, as it's an acronym for "be right back"

[–] Whitebrow@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

Like birb, but without the i

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I did this to my girlfriend and wife, but they updated it to day, “My driver will be back soon.” :( can’t even have a pet kink with Tesla.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yet another reason to trade in your Tesla

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

No point in trading it in when it’s a 2018 model and fully paid off. Gas is as expensive as ever and I live in a state where electricity is cheap. Plus I take transit more than I drive anyways. It’s just for my wife and groceries and long trips now.

People will stone you for having a Nazi car :/

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

I’ve had someone put the Nazi symbol in my dirt on my bumper. I don’t wash it. I don’t drive it a lot.

But no… No one will “stone me to death” for having a car. I live in a super liberal city. No one says shit, maybe because it’s so dirty showing I don’t give a shit about the car because it’s a fucking car. You need to realize things cost money and people CANNOT give that up because a billionaire went insane. We are not rich as consumers. I cannot just get a new EV that works like this.

I’m sorry, but saying it’s a “Nazi car” when I’ve had this for 8 years is crazy. It’s a car. I will use it. I will not buy another, I know Elon is a crazy fucker, and I don’t want to support her (wrong pronoun bc she doesn’t respect pronouns and fuck her).

[–] korazail@lemmy.myserv.one 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I wanted a Tesla when it was the upstart 'we can make a viable EV' brand.

I don't judge anyone in a Tesla "car", since I was only enough money away from buying one and thinking I was being environmentally conscious and an early adopter supporting the future. And that time was simpler, when the fascism and technocracy was still hidden in general.

Cyber trucks, though... By that point, it was clear what you would be supporting.

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

Exactly. You can also tell by the lights who bought it at the “Nazi” phase.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Apparently some newer Nissan EVs have Pet Mode as well. Supposedly they display a polite "Thanks for your concern!" message. I'm yet to see one in the wild though. I'd love to see this normalised, not having to do car park patrols in hot weather would be a blessing.

[–] Anivia@feddit.org 7 points 23 hours ago

Putting my Ioniq into camping mode accomplishes the same thing except for the message on the screen

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 62 points 1 day ago (5 children)

i want to be put into dog mode---

but not.... the loud agressive loudly barking "woof!!! woof!!! >:(" kind of dog, bzt more like the "arfarf :D" kind of ouppygirl type thing-

where its more vibes and less "oh no im scared u will bite into my leg if i run too quickly making u think im a threat"....

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 45 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You need Jesus

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 15 hours ago

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Good girl! Stranger=danger

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you'd be they type of dog that would lick burglars instead of biting them?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

(i had to look up what a burglar is)

ithink I would just look at them and see what they get for themselves <3

~~i would lick u tho~~

i would lick you back :p

[–] catfeeder@piefed.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago

I'd totally be the "bites into your leg" kind of dog 😇

Why is this place so horny

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 4 points 15 hours ago

People here are uh...well, with the kinds of liberation/open mindedness required for 196, comes also realizing nothing is inherently wrong with some really out therw kinks.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 day ago

Perhaps it's because humanity, on the whole, is low-level horny?

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's kinda always been this way

[–] vzqq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Either horny AF or totally ace. It’s the way.

[–] yuri@pawb.social 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

my ace friends will say the most heinous honry shit

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 15 hours ago

Hey, ace people like fun too!

Ex-ace person.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

[inhales deeply] that's unfiltered internet

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Still illegal in my state, the one time calling cops can be funny.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wouldn't do that, as the cops will probably kill the dog

[–] Zink@programming.dev 7 points 23 hours ago

That dog was threatening an all-american vehicle dammit!

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

When in doubt, you can break the windows and say you were worried for the dogs safety. At least, when it's a Tesla.

Actually even if there isn't a dog, just to be on the safe side.

[–] Mk23simp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You'd better bark for your owner like a good little puppy. :P

I'd never!ruff!

wags tail :3

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 day ago
