My home is always in a superposition of completely spotless to hoarder home filled with garbage until observed in one of the two states.

It's all about consistency! You don't have to burn out. Don't try to do it all at once! Give yourself permission to make sets and do sets and enjoy having energy for a change!

If you can't sit still, then sure, do an extra set! But keep doing them in sets so when you are satisfied, you can enjoy the rest of your day and not feel like you emptied your tank.

Yes and if you go into pile mode then try to have some kind of storage boxes so once you hit the wall, you can put the piles into boxes to get back to. That's what I try to do now because having the piles laying around just attracted more piles, mixes up in piles and just visual overload!

I hated cleaning my room as a kid and my folks would get so so mad at me that I would start cleaning and just get so overwhelmed that I threw everything out. I hate thinking about all the stories, poetry I had as a kid/teenager I just didn't know how to organize so I threw it all out ☹️ so much creativity I threw away in those clean ups.

Yeah, that's why step one is to begin organizing things. Putting things in even a semblance of order reduces the visual overstimulation.

And the good news is that you can always create again! Losing your old work doesn't have to be the last of your creative efforts.

This ia great advice

I purposely regulate them highs for this reason. Yes, I love being wound up and joyful, but I know in four hours I'll be dead on the floor if I dont regulate the high.

My experience has also been that it's harder to start doing it this way (because ADHD), but once it's the habit, it's much, much easier to keep doing it this way.

I should have written "try to" do this. Like anything, Its all practice.

Very true. It's not about the days you don't, it's about the days you do.

I keep my piles in moving boxes so as to trick the demons into giving me head pats.

I just moved. I've hit the "half of my stuff is unpacked and put away and half of my stuff is randomly thrown around the House" stage.

I ran in to the issue while packing of not giving one flying fuck of what went in to any particular box roughly 1/4 of the way in to packing.

I'm down to just a handful of still kinda packed boxes that I occasionally need to open to rifle through to look for something.

It has been 5 years.

My partner has several boxes that have not been opened since we moved in. And several more that my mother in law dropped off when we moved in.

I threatened to throw them away after a year but I just don't have the heart in me to do that. It was always an empty threat, and I think it was obvious.

Ugh I hope this isn't me but... We'll see.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My first apartment never left that stage until I moved again after over a year

[–] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

I've always been decent at unpacking but this is my first move in 10 years lol. I'm out of practice.

[–] jellyfishhunter@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm living in my new home since more than a year. I don't find the energy to move past that stage. I still don't know where my sunglasses and my battery charger are.

[–] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's brutal. I did accomplish a bunch of deep cleaning and fixed the refrigerator today while avoiding unpacking 🤣

[–] jellyfishhunter@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To be fair, my situation is fairly complex. Big house, multiple family members involved, tons of old furniture that's in the way, other tasks having higher priority. That plus a full-time job is draining enough for lazy me to not dig through all my piles and boxes in the hopes of achieving order.

But I threw out a couple of large household appliances today. Bit by bit...

[–] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Oh I get that. We inherited a house. It's been empty for a minute. The cleaning has been... Intense.

I have this in software.
