If anyone wants to help with such a pedestrian thing, please let me know. I've invested a lot of time into the document and it is important. When I created a new version, the first numbered heading lost its number and messed up the sequence of all of the following headings. Additionally it stopped syncing to the TOC (which went from a black to a blue text).
Wanting to focus on writing while being able to see where I was in the document, I manually numbered some headings. I've read that makes things worse. Also, unsure of how to keep numbering to start on a certain page when I will be adding front matter. I am considering moving it all over to a new document. Although, I want to avoid creating the same problem.
I have the guide, but it is geared toward starting new, not salvaging a mess.
I tried to create an account for the LibreOffice community and it says that it "Can't send my email." Tried another browser and turned off things meant to protect my data and still couldn't register.
