This is the most incompetent, incoherent war America has fought in the last 100 years. And that’s saying a lot. This administration has no idea what they are doing. There is no viable war plan. They change their goals and their aims every single day.

I have great sympathy for our soldiers and our military leaders. They are being given directions by a senile old man who is losing his mind. And so, it’s no surprise that this war is going horribly.

I don't. They should have turned against the current administration and the president long time ago. At the very least when this war was going to start. They didn't and still follow orders that weren't legal at the beginning, not questioning what they are doing.

That and having a DUI hire that has driven out principled professionals and installed frat boys at the highest levels.

A war that shouldn’t be happening, waged by a man who should be in jail, run by an administration of unqualified officials, at the expense of a people already priced out of their own nation.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Never have I seen a more concise sentence in my life!

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 24 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

It's a war that shouldn't be happening to begin with. Anyone who actually cares about American national security wants green energy. That's the only way we get out of the Middle East.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Oil means centralized control through imposed scarcity. You can't stop the sun and wind...yet, but I'm sure they're working on it.

[–] TrollTrollrolllol@lemmy.world 1 points 49 minutes ago

Wouldn't it be just so on brand if the instead of blackening the sky to stop the AI (i.e. The Matrix) we did it to keep people from getting unlimited free power without paying some oligarch for it?

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

No no, we'll leave when the wells run dry.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

This. I just never understood people that piss on wind and solar and EVs and just generally reevaluating our energy uses pretend to be "patriots" by simping for Big Oil.

If we can become truly energy independent, we don't have to be embroiled in all this stuff. Sure, Israel will still be a problem for entirely different reasons, but we have all these weird dynamics with monstrous leaders, and all because of the oil.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

"Yeah, bu-bu-bu-but Biden! He was so old! That debate! And he was shaking hands with invisible people!"

-- conservatives, reactionary centrists, Murc's Law Media, and a whole lot of the so-called "left".

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 20 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

He may be demented/insane, but it's not like he's any worse than he ever was. He's ALWAYS been like this.

[–] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 7 points 3 hours ago

He was always stood, yes. But he's way slower on the uptake and even more likely to go of on tangents than he used to be. So, yes, there actually has been a very noticable decline. Plus the slurring...

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf 11 points 4 hours ago

Watch videos of him from the 80's and 90's, there's been a clear and steep decline.

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 82 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Even before his mental decline/2025 stroke, Trump has no concern for the finer details of any military operation. He is profoundly uncurious, which makes him easy to puppet.

This war is the brainchild of fundamentalist psychopaths in Israel and the Heritage Foundation. Chaos is the goal, and the loss in life and treasure is of no concern to them because it's not their lives or treasure.

[–] ragepaw@lemmy.ca 36 points 6 hours ago (4 children)

I don't like that I have heard a non zero number of people on the Christian extreme that are cheering this on because they think that is the start of Armageddon and Jesus is coming.

Playing out that scenario for a minute. They'll be really fucking shocked when the Jesus that shows up is a brown hippie and not a white Republican in a suit and that by their rules, they're all going to the lake of fire, not the rest of us.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 5 hours ago

That is literally the point of this war, that's why nobody can give us a real reason for it - because the real reason is to appease the religious psychos who are excited for the Apocalypse so they can get Raptured, and sit with Jesus and point and laugh at the rest of us, as we get dragged to Hell.

But they can't say that out loud, even though that's what they told the soldiers before their first strike. We have to get some lame excuse, because if we knew it was to cause the Rapture, we might...

Do nothing. We'll do nothing. We already know this, it was heavily reported on the next day, and it should be the ONLY story about this war - Why are we fighting a religious Holy War? - but the media doesn't like that angle, even though it is 100% true. The media, even the LIBERAL media, doesn't want to piss off the religious whack-jobs.

So we pretend it's about all that other obvious bullshit, when it's about two things: The Rapture, and stealing oil.

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Christian Dominionism.

Their particularly vile interpretation of several individual passages in the Bible says that if America is a "Christian kingdom" at the time of Armageddon, then the US will reign over the second garden.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It's like believing the lord of the rings really happened.. fantasy, sheesh

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What are you trying to say? Gandalf has answered many of my prayers.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago

you know, that's fair

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 4 points 6 hours ago

They are going to be surprised when Jesus is glowing with megatons of radiation and fire and then they are just gone.

[–] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 16 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It’s going horribly because it is a stupid fucking war and Iran has geographic advantages in that it is positioned right next to the most important energy transit point on the planet. Going to war Iran is inherently stupid. It is a dumbfuck thing to do

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 8 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah and then to panic and act like oil prices going up is a huge surprise is frankly idiotic. What the fuck did you really expect to happen when attack a country that produces 20% of the world's oil supply and is near the energy shipping lane, strait or hormuz?

I think the pedophile actually thought Iran was just going to bow down and give up to imperialism after day one when they thought killing the Ayatollah was going to just magically win the whole thing.

[–] Pofski@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago

He doesn't care. The only thing he wanted is to show that he can blow things up (accomplished), and to have less people point out that he is in the Epstein files every single day (apparently working). I think that is why he had the reaction 'some people are going to die, that's what happens in war'. The complete indifference is staggering. He is a self centered moronic bully that just fucks things up and then just walks away with the 'not my problem' mentality.

[–] Pelicanen@fedia.io 2 points 4 hours ago

Oil prices going up makes his oil-producing buddies richer and the deal with Venezuela more profitable. No matter how this ends, he and the rest of the psychopaths in his orbit profit from it.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 5 hours ago

The soviet invasion of Afghanistan was also the outcome of a short sighted decision from a dying old man.

History rhymes, I suppose.

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 8 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (3 children)

Americans, what are your views of all this going on? It's almost as if Iran is accomplishing things... Like we know marching in the streets doesn't really change anything here in USA and that there's the possibility voting won't matter either. In a way it "feels" like Iran is doing more to save people from America's fascism than Americans are.

I wish I was more educated, but it "feels" like imo no one should be siding with America. Like I said I am not very educated so I say that as an unsure but intuitive feeling. Frankly American culture and 1st world culture in general seems out of hand and out of touch with honest genuine humanity.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

As an American citizen, I can tell you that the current administration's actions are completely divorced from public consensus and desire for war. The unfortunate reality is that our representation at the federal level is so diluted and insignificant that no amount of public polling would change the administration's mind (and as a matter of personal opinion, I think the midterms may not be able to course correct the ship either at this point). You only need to look at the impunity of ICE's actions as a simple frame of reference.

Granted, I am a college educated person in a more "left leaning" state of the country, and have enough research and context about this situation to know that these actions are not rational nor beneficial for our geopolitical or national interests. That isn't the case for the majority of the nation, unfortunately.

There are plenty of people who are able to be influenced, either through well-funded media campaigns or with the allure of being able to benefit from the situation (such as those who work for the military industrial complex and the AI companies who will have a field day selling lethal autonomous software to the DoD). Many will be more than happy to turn a blind eye to the suffering that will be borne by the soldiers involved, the civilians involved, and international disruptions to trade and stability for personal gain or blissful ignorance.

Even for those who have a sense of compassion for their fellow human beings, there's simply a lot on their plate that pulls their attention away from the war. Those who can afford to be politically active have little incentive to do so, and those who would like to see deescalation cannot afford to be politically active.

I completely empathize with those who do not side with this current war of aggression. Just keep in mind that "siding with America" in this context is with the Federal Government and perhaps a portion of Congress, not with the average citizen or even a majority of US states. If Pacifica/Cascadia became an option for us west coasters, it might be worth taking nowadays.

[–] MerryJaneDoe@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago

it “feels” like imo no one should be siding with America.

As far as I know, no other country besides Israel has sided with the U.S.

The people here have no power. The elections have been rigged for years - not necessarily by directly manipulating ballots, but by using gerrymandering (unfair voting districts) and by allowing unlimited corporate money into elections (Citizens United, 2010).

The executive branch can only be reigned in by Congress or the Supreme Court. Both seem unwilling or unable to hold the Trump admin accountable. The next step will be federal agents (probably ICE) engaging in voter intimidation at the polls. They will try to take over the actual verification and count the votes themselves.

We're a full fledged fascist state now, concentration camps and everything else involved. We weren't great before but now we're just more evil than China, on par with Russia just invading countries for no good reason.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I hope the whole plan falls apart out of sheer incompetence on the part of the players. Because, that's the only hope I have left. Also, it'd be fucking hilarious.

[–] tate@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 5 hours ago

Thousands have already needlessly died. No matter what happens next it wil never be "hilarious."

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 7 points 5 hours ago

I'm waiting for a Spanish Armada moment where a single AShM gets through and sends one of our carriers to the bottom.

Trump knows exactly what he's doing, fomenting chaos so he can keep raping kids and stealing money. The only incompetence is the people who keep letting him rape kids and steal money.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

I mean he's not wrong

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

There wouldn't be a "war" if that "senile old man" hadn't started it, so there's that.

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip -1 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Ah good. More from the Democrat playbook of saying mildly provocative things about Trump and then doing nothing about it.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Hey... Chucky is writing a very strongly worded letter as we speak! I heard he even included a few curse words, words such as "damn" and at least one or two "shits"! Things are heating up, man. Have faith!

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip -1 points 5 hours ago

I don’t know who’s downvoting me here. Clearly a lot of fans of empty statements hanging out here today.

[–] MerryJaneDoe@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago

As opposed to storming Congress and trashing the building?

Democrat or Republican, the voice of the people is dead. America is a corporate machine now. The only thing that speaks for the people is the stock market.
