About us

An open, user owned community for the general disscussion of the libertarian philosophy.

Most people live their own lives by that code of ethics. Libertarians believe that that code should be applied consistently, even to the actions of governments, which should be restricted to protecting people from violations of their rights. Governments should not use their powers to censor speech, conscript the young, prohibit voluntary exchanges, steal or “redistribute” property, or interfere in the lives of individuals who are otherwise minding their own business.

I’m confused. Libertarians want universal healthcare and other socialist things?

I cant see the post for whatever reason but yea, some libertarians do.

Universal Healthcare is not explicitly a socialist idea.

Would all be required to pay for it or only those who elect to? And the for those who do not elect, they can still use it? That seems the only libertarian way.

Libertarian doesn't mean no taxes. There's a spectrum. I'd favor paying for Healthcare over paying for bullshit wars.

That’s an interesting paradox. “I do what I want with my money” but also “you can force me to pay for some things.” But if you’re a libertarian who doesn’t want universal healthcare, I’d imagine you’d believe it goes against libertarian beliefs. Are there’s names for libertarians across the spectrum, like socialist libertarians?

Its weird talking to non-libertarians about governance. I can't tell when you're being sarcastic and when your worldview really is that divorced from mine.

And yea, there are libertarian socialists, though they don't always claim us and we don't always claim them.

But consider that government is always a balance between allowing liberty and preventing anarchy. People do best when they have control over their own lives. That can't happen when you have a nanny state protecting them from their own choices, but it also can't happen when the biggest dick in the room can beat you down and take all your shit.
