Every Republican presidential since Reagan has dragged us into a war of some sort.

What does this even mean? The proportion of gen z trump voters was way lower than millennial trump voters in 2024

Regardless these arbitrary generational divisions are worse than meaningless

The meme also made millenials the manipulative villain too.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I have a feeling the meme maker never watched the show.

Meme templates often evolve past their original context. A good example is Spider-Man with his glasses. People use it with Peter putting his glasses on to see clearly, but in the movie he had to take them off because his vision was better without them. But without the context of the scene that's (mostly) lost. (He looks sort of squinty with the glasses on, but still confused with them off.)

That one actually does bother me though.

As someone who served in both… yea. We all saw this coming for Iran. Gen Z buying into Trump and maga hurt a lot to watch.

I was three weeks ago old when I learned that college football exists in the USA primarily as a conditioning/selection tool for potential army recruits.

[–] phaseshift@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t think that’s the case at all. College football is closer to communities in areas that don’t have bigger professional sports teams and is an extremely achievable goal for a lot of folks who want to play ball and go to school.

I would be sold if you told me that Hollywood was conditioned/incentivized to make movies idolizing the Army

  1. Perhaps I misspoke saying "college" football. (I'm canadian so we don't have college football the same way here)

  2. I don't really see how any of those facts you said are mutually exclusive with what I said.

  3. If you think about football as a career, it's a goldmine of people who didn't make the cut and can enlist.

  4. If you think about football's skill development... it very much aligns with military teamwork etc.

  5. Football selects for people who will follow orders, put themselves in harms way, and focus on the objective.

I have yet to see someone use this meme properly once. This tells me not enough people watched the show and understand the context of their own fucking meme.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is the first known use of this meme:

It's the way the two people appear, not whatever the original context of the scene was, that's relevant.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I believe you meant misuse. Also that's a dumb meme saying nothing.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

How can you misuse a meme that never existed before?

that’s a dumb meme saying nothing.

Yeah, that's how it is with most memes. They're not meant to be taken seriously. Actually, there's a meme for that!

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

I suppose that's all true, well played.

[–] jmill@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think many people assume it's Dr. Who, and if The Doctor is looking at you like that, ya done fucked up.

But very different context in Jessica Jones.

GenX, who lived through the last war with Iran:

[–] homes@piefed.world 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

The GenXers and Boomers who lived through the war before that

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You were supposed to zoom in more, here:

[–] homes@piefed.world 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sorry, I’m on my phone. I updated the pic. Good to go?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was just poking at you. ;)

And, if I’d been the one sitting in front of my Photoshop, it could’ve been the other way around. Have a good night!

Instead of Gen Z, let's just say every republican this term. He cheated, but a whole shit ton of people still voted for him. I don't think he needed to cheat.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Exactly, one too many idiots who believed in MAGA. The shitheads should be lining up at the US Army recruiting offices signing up for 11 Bravo, Infantry.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 12 points 3 days ago

Hey we lived through Iraq twice!

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 days ago (6 children)

Low effort generationalism again.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

As opposed to high effort generationalism?

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Generalization are always wrong. Always. Every single time.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 4 points 2 days ago

Only a sith deals in absolutes.
