These AI posts are always downvoted by the lemmy community, so silly.
Yes, we dont like AI datacenters and the dystopian future that is coming. But at the same time, you have individuals using AI to create their own software. Imagine that.

Until it breaks and you don’t know how to fix it.
Or it just hallucinates and generates dummy data that it presents as legitimate and people blindly trust it.
Until it breaks and you don’t know how to fix it.
Unless you are using ai to actaully teach you things, so that you DO learn how to fix it.
it has always been practical. even before i started working as a software developer 25 years ago, i had made numerous games, programs and scripts for myself, family or friends. from simple backup scripts to reminder apps and interesting graphic hacks. it's not that hard. most languages are very similar, so the most important bit is to choose the best language for the task, like i would choose Java for automatic layout management in the GUI, for example.
Yeah but Ai automates it so you dont have to write any code. I agree its not hard though, I was doing the same, always have been. :)
that only works to a certain degree tho. and modifying a growing codebase with AI usually breaks it. it works best when statring a completely new project
Yeah, Lemmy definitely doesn't like to look at long term effects. They see "AI" and they automatically downvote.
AI has taught me more about software than anything before it. It holds my hand until I figure out what I am doing. If it's used as a tool, rather than a crutch, it's amazing.
I think AI is a great thing, and the good outweighs the bad. Sure, the bad things are valid, but I like it and use it daily.
But Lemmy has a bunch of programmers, so fearing they may be put out of a job, makes them angry. Ignoring the fact that they laugh at AI and say it will never replace them. If not afraid, then why the anger?
But when job loss due to automation happened to manufacturing in the midwest, many of those same programmers were the first to laugh say say, "Well, learn to program, rednecks!"
I think AI is a great tool to learn stuff. It's changed my life and allowed me to earn extra income in my retirement, so it's been life-changing for me.
Its just that the people i think are intelligent, they are always capable of seeing the pros and cons of situations, technology and events.
So yes, I also use Ai personally in my projects, and at the same time i dislike all the Ai big tech leaders. They are creepy as hell and they dont share the human values most people have.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
