I started biking recently. I’m a little afraid to drive on the roads, but there’s plenty of bike paths near me.

Did a long circuit, and for the first time I had to drive on the road for a couple of blocks. Nothing happened, but I was so nervous that when I transitioned back onto the sidewalk at the end I didn’t notice the ~2 inch ridge at the bottom and I took too shallow of an angle and absolutely ate it in a spectacular fashion.

Six different people came out of nowhere on this empty street to check on me though, which was nice.

Oh yeah. I remember crossing streets with embedded streetcar tracks. I learned the "always at near right angles" lesson really quickly.

Let's try something else.

I remember someone posting about this, and yeah it's pretty risky, also getting honked at for no reason. That definitely does not happen in my country and I daresay anywhere in Europe, well unless you drive on a road that is strictly off limits to cyclists motorways usually.

But it also seems to depend on where you drive and where you live.
