Its too bad that minio just recently ended open source support and archived their github. I want to try ente, but I dont want to deal with having to migrate from minio to whatever storage solution ente ultimately ends up going with.

You can use any S3-compatible storage solution, even an external one. I use Exoscale. If you'd like one that stores files locally, I'd recommend Garage
