Yeah, that's called a monarchy or some other form of authoritarian government.

Representative democracy sucks, it just sucks less than all other forms of government.

No, this is anarchism; an absence of government.

"Democracy never needed walls to keep their people inside!" - JFK

Democracy as we know it doesn't work in the age of social media and AI "truths". Something has to change

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

It does. People just need better education

Of course, and the reality is it never really has worked.

If you read the early history of the founding of the United States, you see it's full of using "media" to influence the populace. Democracy has never been intelligent people having arguments without logical fallacies and convincing each other the best path forward.

Democracy is far from perfect, but it is better than the other systems of government.

true - but perhaps we have settled for "good enough'ish", and stopped looking for something better? 🤔 any newer types of governance?

Nah, too many perfectly good trees wasted on all the furniture

What? Senate on an annual paid vacation ten times longer and more lucrative than you could possibly have?

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I love it. It has the perfect number of people currently seated.

If this council will not act, then the council should be broken!

You say the words, but your hearts are empty, your ears closed to the truth. You stand for nothing but your own petty interests. 'The problems of others are not our concern.' I do not blame you for standing silent in your shame. You, who knew what was coming, but refused to take up the burden of this war.

What is this representative democracy for ants?! There are far too few seats to properly represent a population that large. It needs to be at least three times bigger.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It needs at least 1 seat per per person, and split into many smaller rooms based on locality.

The is nothing in US law that prevents congress from expanding the size of the House to ~330,000,000
