Why would you follow a user ? Isn't that more Mastodons forte?

[–] ageedizzle@piefed.ca 1 points 12 hours ago

I think this user is posting on Mastodon but because they @ asklemmy it shows up as a thread in there.

[–] MurrayL@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People follow users here?

I subscribe to communities, and I often see the same people posting & commenting, but I don’t go out of my way to follow any of them. That seems odd to me.

[–] sam@break3.social -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What communities are you interested in then, I forgot Lemmy itself doesn't allow you to follow users but wanted to ask what they follow and why.

[–] CombatWombatEsq@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

You can follow Lemmy users from mastodon, though, so the question still makes sense.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Follow? I don’t even like my own posts.

Careful, or you will hurt noodle’s feelings

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm going to assume this was posted from Mastodon as you can't follow people here on Lemmy. At least not that I am aware of.

[–] ageedizzle@piefed.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

The use of hashtags also suggests that this was originally a Mastodon post

You can follow people on Lemmy but you have to do so manually. 😌

[–] mech@feddit.org 1 points 12 hours ago

I only follow people in real life.

Pug jesus

He posts cool history stuff, some 40k, and other weird and wonderful things. Love his history stuff tho

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Big agree! Love the guy's history posts and that he often explains the historical context of the meme/artwork/etc so everyone can learn and get in on the joke 🫡

I don't follow people, just communities. I think my twin follows this account though, from mastodon. I know they have seen my cat posts here.

Which is funny, as I also just post the cat on mastodon with my mastodon account.

[–] ageedizzle@piefed.ca 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You can follow a lemmy account from Mastodon?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I have no idea how, I haven't tried. I'll ask twin when they get back from work though! I know you can also follow lemmy communities from mastodon!

[–] ageedizzle@piefed.ca 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

That’s pretty neat please let me know what your twin says

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

"The same way you follow an instance!"

I said that was unhelpful.

They then said "Find some way to get to their page and follow it like how the instances have a way to follow them on the side of the page"

So

Uh

Good luck??

[–] ageedizzle@piefed.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

Hahaha that's okay it's better than nothing. Thank you!

[–] msokiovt@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Honestly same, I just follow communities.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

As scott said I don't really want to follow users. That being said I really wish these things could be setup more like trust cafe where you can rate users. Basically you rate them 0-100 where 100 would be subscribe and 0 would be block and everyone defaults to 50.

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

A detail: You actually can kinda follow users on Piefed. You can get notified when they post new threads, although it'd be cool if you could also "subscribe" and thus threads they make could show in your feed.

[–] CombatWombatEsq@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

If I were to follow a single user, it'd probably be @LadyButterfly@reddthat.com They seem delightful.

Edit: All of the "big accounts" I recognize are because I asked this question, which might be of interest here.

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

+1 for Lady Butterfly - she's the best!!

[–] RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The entire point of Lemmy is not having to follow people to get content.

[–] sam@break3.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I posted this on both Lemmy and Mastodon at the same time forgetting that, What Communities do you use and why?

[–] RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 3 points 16 hours ago

I'm not typing all the communities I follow but you can click anyone's username to see in which ones they are active.

As for the Why

1/ I want to.

2/ I enjoy the content

3/ I have experience to offer

4/ I wish to learn from that community

Umm, that guy?
