Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura says the people of his state should consider leaving the United States. In an interview on the SpinSisters podcast that premiered Saturday, Ventura pitched his plan by saying that it’s clear President Donald Trump doesn’t want the state.

“How about since Trump dislikes Minnesota so bad and we’re so out of control, let’s join Canada. Instead of Canada becoming the 51st state of America and lose their healthcare.... I’d like to see Minnesota, all of us become Canadians,” Ventura said. Make this part of Canada, because it’s obvious Donald Trump don’t want us. It’s obviously he’s ready to fracture the whole country for his own folly."

Based, but no thanks.

Unlike Donald and maga we aren't actively seeking out land and frankly even if we wanted to take them we couldn't without crippling the country financially.

Tho we might have your back if you split from from the lead brained south.

No thanks. We don't want american culture polluting our own any more than it already does. Your 'greatest country on Earth' mentality created this mess, you can clean it up.

Make your own country. Isn't that what the declaration of Independence was all about?

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

It's also what the US civil war was all about.

Would that ruin our chances of joining the EU? (I know we can’t)

The thing is, Jessie, Canada doest want the ~40% of Minnesotans who did vote for Trump.

Figure out how to leave them behind then maybe we can talk.

And whatever % that are Americans.

I seriously doubt there were 40%. Canada gas their own problems as well. It's not like it would be over saturated any more than it already is. Think Canada doesn't have racists? Where are they on those abuse cases against native women?

I seriously doubt there were 40%.

46% actually.

Think Canada doesn’t have racists?

Obviously we do. And we need to prevent their bullshit from spreading.

But I don't see how adopting a bunch more from another country improves the situation.

We have maga style racists and neo-nazis, but they tend to be relegated to the dark corners of society. The loosers, the dweebs, the Conservative Party of Canada, the Police...

Wow, I didn’t think a State would be openly discussing secession this early in the year.

The USA should become Canada's 14th province (or territory).
