Alt Text for accessibility?

but very funny

I would probably benefit from this as long as it was the right friend doing the forcing.

Pluribus, One Piece, Star Trek, Star Wars, Half Life, ...

[–] rajarizer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn't Pluribus amazing?! I'm slightly behind I think... It's no Severance but it's so good!

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not a fan of Pluribus, and it's not just being contrarian. A friend told me about it at a dinner party and the concept seemed interesting. Forced myself to watch it due to their recommendation and, to me, it was a waste of time.

First episode is a pretty good hook. I thought the concept of being immune to a hive mind taking over was interesting. What were you hoping to see?

spoilers ahead

I really thought it was going to explore more of the connection, show what humans are able to do with all the knowledge shared across billions, maybe have a main character that's cynical but not just wanting for things to go back to the way they were for no good reason and just hating everyone and everything - except it they have long legs and are their sexual fantasy.
Imagine starting to research the construction of a spaceship and then suddenly connecting with an unexpected other species on earth e.g mice, pigs, dolphins, whales, etc. and having to figure out what to do then. The virus obviously infected mice and they were intelligent enough to infect humans.

The way they "accelerated their plan" after being discovered and suddenly the entire world simultaneously gets turned also just didn't make sense. They could've even explored that aspect a little but it was just a deux ex machina. Her wife/girlfriend/whatever dying was also unnecessary for the plot. The protagonist was already hating everybody. The wife's survival wouldn't have changed anything in that regard. Instead we got to watch her scream, moan, and whine for 3 or so episodes. I clocked out once the dude started his trek.

IMO, they could've done so much more.

I've seen this, but you should hide or remove your comment. Major spoilers.

Oh, sorry. I hope I didn't spoil it for you. Let me add tags.

Good Lord, I tried to watch One Piece, but couldn't get into it. Some people say it gets good around episode 60 but I didn't have time for that.

The live action was made for folks like you. It's a great adaptation, loved by one piece fans and newcomers alike, and it has a much quicker pace.

I have been avoiding it since I saw the Death Note and Cowboy Bebop line actions, but I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

POV anyone suggests an anime to me ever

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Netflix's DARK, except it gets good from the very beginning and then destroys your mind in Season Three. (It still fucking nails the landing though.)

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I had this show on my watchlist and didn't watch it for years because I was too lazy to read the subtitles (do not watch it dubbed; the dubbing is so bad as to not be worth it).

It is amazing. I've watched it three times now and started again last night. Also, that theme song by Nena? Cannot get enough.

I did myself such a disservice by not watching this sooner.

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I'm very old and I've never seen anything better. From the original soundtrack by Ben Frost, to the song montages at the end of each episode, the casting and, of course, the plot, it's almost faultless. The theme song is by Apparat, BTW. I have so much of the music in my playlist it's ridiculous.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Ah yes, I don't mean the theme song. You know the upbeat '80s song that gets played a bunch? That's the one I mean.

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 1 points 3 minutes ago

If it's by Nena, it's likely Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann (Somehow, Somewhere, Someday).

I'm the Red guy when I'm trying to introduce my friends to the latest great anime show.
