Is the game any good? Probably can't get it until after a few months.

Right now it feels like a direct upgrade to Minecraft. The only thing that's really missing is an analogue to the villagers, but we know that's coming. Other than that, the gameplay is better (better movement and combat) and the variety is better (more mobs in general, more blocks, more biomes), and it all feels more cohesive than even base Minecraft. I just can't wait for something akin to Create, with moving and spinning blocks.

It's definitely worth the into price as is, but if they continue the good work then it'll be worth that big supporter tier as well.

How does it compare to voxelibre?

That's good to know. By time I'm able to get it they've probably ironed out some more of the kinks too.

Given its rocky path to get here, I have 100% confidence early access will be a buggy mess.

What remains to be seen is 1) if they can clean it up fast enough to stay relevant, and 2) if it will be a compelling enough upgrade to draw people away from Minecraft.

I suspect 2) is going to be incredibly difficult to get right. Sure the gameplay might be better, but Minecraft is one of the most overly documented and heavily modded games ever. If they want to convince people to give up years of work optimizing every aspect of that game to come play in their sandbox they're gonna have to get clever.
