We could have told him that—oh wait we did. Fuck him.

evangelical christians were lied to

No they weren't, it was all laid out, they just didn't think but would happen to them, or they only heard what they wanted to hear.

He's been elected by these fools, he doesn't need them anymore.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 31 points 2 days ago

It only matters when it affects them personally. Fuck him.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 33 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Imagine your racism for strangers being stronger than your love for your wife. What kind of person would you be? ... I guess he would know.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (3 children)

If it makes it any better in my experience the average Trump vote is pretty fucken stupid. Use my grandmother for example where whenever I have any trouble dissembling a piece of tech around her her first response is to suggest the sawzaw. Point is they ain't very bright and a lot of them legit don't know about how bad he is due to information and propaganda bubbles.

They didn't learn a damn thing. They will still vote for him again.

[–] lemmyng@piefed.ca 151 points 3 days ago (4 children)

The only belief that's been ~~shattered~~ mildly bruised is that he is in the in-group, and that by association his wife is too. But it's a safe bet that he still believes himself to be in the in-group.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 51 points 3 days ago

Exactly. You vote for the Leopards Eating Peoples' Faces Party because you want to watch the leopards eating someone's face. You just never believe it will be your face.

Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened.

Evangelical Christians are easy to lie to, if you want to know the truth, because they disdain intelligence, preferring their world in which they cosplay magic in fairyland 24/7 without even a tiny hint of self-awareness (because they have none). Given the same choice he would do it again, because he's too cost-sunk in his dumbass roleplaying to do anything different.

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 3 days ago

Evangelical Christians just want to hear that they're going to be rewarded for their suffering. Catholics as well. The Rapture, Heaven, Honoring the Son of God...

It's a whole group of miserable people who are desperate for affirmation that their misery has meaning. Then they groom their children into miserable lives, and pressure strangers into being miserable as well. It's incredibly sad.

“It is one thing to just not deliver,” she said. “But to act in the way that he has, which is so dehumanizing, so cruel… this is why we are seeing the beginnings of real cracks with this president and his base.”

The beginnings of real cracks? WTF? He doesn't need you any more! You elected him already. Why would he possibly care? If he's president beyond the end of this term, it won't be because a free, fair and legal election took place! Why would he fucking care one ounce of a fart what you, a powerless nonentity, think of him? There's nothing you can offer him in the future. He only ever cares what you can do for him. He has never cared what he can do for you. Ever.

were lied to

No shit, Sherlock! The world's most famous, prolific and egregious liar whose desperately stupid lies were pointed out to you many, many times, and just today you realised he was lying to you too? How utterly stupid are you?

[–] Ronno@feddit.nl 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your last paragraph is what surprises me the most, because that's just not the case. Project 2025 was very clear, they weren't lied to, they just heard what they wanted to hear.

Conservatives broadly fine care about suffering and hardship unless it directly and specifically affects them. Even then it doesn't always sink in, either.

"evangelical christians were lied to" — yeah, and you fell for it. there is no excuse for falling for it again. none. you have access to the internet just like the rest of us, if you were too stupid or ignorant to make sense of it at the time, that's on you and the community you belong to. fuck all of you sheeple

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 40 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Again, the classic quote rings loud 'I didn't think the leopards would eat MY face' It's super hard for me to sympathize with ignorant racists.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 19 points 3 days ago

That's because you shouldn't. Don't ever sympathize with nazis.

I know a veteran who married a women he met while stationed in Panama. He also adopted a kid from Panama. They were all loud and proud MAGA on the socials up until about 6 months ago. Now all of it has been removed. GEE I WONDER WHY?

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Man I feel bad for that kid. The wife should know better, but the kids just there

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 54 points 3 days ago (9 children)

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 44 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Also I have to remind myself that a hundred “leopards ate my face” stories still only represent a tiny drop in the ocean of assholes who are cheering on the fourth reich

I am happy some seem to finally face the truth and recognize their mistake... this is the first of this type of regret-pieces where at the very least the face-eaten man does not claim he would STILL vote for trump... so I give him credit for that

And yes, they were lied to but come on... it was not a subtle lie, hard to verify, based on mostly truth.. the lie was so outrageously evident, I cannot believe anyone is stupid enough to buy it

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Some San Diego cop found out the same thing a few weeks ago. They arrested, and deported, his British wife. IIRC that was at her final immigration hearing, where she would have been given a green card.

Fucking idiot. His wife was an immigrant, and he thought it would he a good idea to vote for trump?

Zero empathy. You voted for this and are only mad because it's now affecting you.

I love this for you, jackass pedo-supporter.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Huh finally one that didn't say "I'm awfully upset but I would still vote for him again."

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 45 points 3 days ago (3 children)

And the central premise of his reelection, which was to make America more affordable, is a complete fallacy, a complete lie.

You mean Trump, who is well known to be a pathological lying criminal narcissist, lied to people so he could get reelected? surprised Pikachu

Problem is the other 99.999% of them will say the same exact thing, but not until something happens to them personally.

You can't sway them as a group, they need to be at a personal disadvantage.

It is a running theme. Just like their representatives, GOP voters don't give a flying fuck who gets hurt by their policies - maybe even celebrate when it hurts the right people - until it affects them personally.

I have my own problems with corporate Democrats, but at least they make a show of trying to help their constituents and maybe even pass something helpful so long as it doesn't rankle their billionaire donors.

Lacking empathy ?

"In my work with the defendants (at the Nuremberg Trials 1945-1949) I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think 1 have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It's the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men.Evil. I think. is the absence of empathy."

  • Captain G. M. Gilbert, Army psychologist

"The death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture about to fall into barbarism. [...1 This loss of empathy laid the groundwork for some of humanity's darkest moments. " - Hannah Arendt

Oh how the turns have tabled.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 10 points 2 days ago

I hope they both suffer tremendously. They asked for this exact thing. They need to experiment it.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

This loser doesn't believe in anything other than racism and xenophobia.

And most likely homophobia and transphobia.

Hope his life collapses.

Off topic but Related: My brother voted Harris (but he's still a racist tho), but I heard he's planning to back to our home country¹ for marriage. I honestly wonder how the visa application stuff would work out for his future wife... 👀 The plan is to live in the US.

(¹It's China btw, I don't think my brother wants to live there, neither do I)

Anyways, popcorn time. Anyone wanna bet what happens? I'll probably update in like a year or 2, not sure exactly when he's making the trip.
