“People will die because of this,” he said, implying that Mamdani’s pick was a DEI hire.

Elon Musk took to his social media site on Friday to decry New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s pick to lead the city’s fire department, claiming that she couldn’t do the job.

The commissioner-to-be, Lillian Bonsignore, is a 31-year FDNY veteran who led the department’s emergency medical services during the Covid-19 pandemic. She will be the second woman to hold the position and the first openly gay person to lead the department.

That was enough for Musk to weigh in. “People will die because of this,” he wrote, adding, “Proven experience matters when lives are at stake.”

Anti-DEI is just code for pro racism

“Proven experience matters when lives are at stake.”

Elon Musk let a bunch of teenagers/20-somethings run into gov buildings as DOGE, take a bunch of data and fire thousands of people. The damage is still all over the place.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

People are literally starving as we speak because of their destruction of USAID. Lives at stake, what a joke.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why the fuck are you telling me what Elon thinks about anything, let alone NY?

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not a NYer, not an emergency worker, not a politician, not an American.

GTFO, Elmo.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How is he not an American. He has citizenship. Or because he wasn't born there?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

He's an immigrant, so according to MAGA, he and all of his anchor babies need to go.

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

He admitted himself he's here illegally. If the government can use their hamfisted fascism to demonize innocent brown people for how they entered the country decades ago, I can certainly do it for one of the most reprehensible human beings currently living.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 73 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, they won't. Just like they didn't the other 22 times a non-firefighter headed the organization. She's also an EMT vet of 30+ years, and has been the FDNY EMS Chief for quite some time. She's well regarded in the FDNY, and considering the previous Commissioner resigned the day after Mamdani won because he refused to serve under a Muslim.

Just because she's a Gay Woman does not make the FDNY work any differently. Hell, something like 90% of ALL FDNY responses are from EMS. It's an umbrella organization, not just for fighting fires.

Eat shit, Elon.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

the previous Commissioner resigned the day after Mamdani won because he refused to serve under a Muslim.

What a cowardly fucking dipshit. He'll probably go around telling people he lost his job because of the Muslims, not because he QUIT because he's afraid of them. Good riddance.

[–] sbbq@lemmy.zip 72 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Does anyone give a shit what he thinks?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

He's a Sociopathic Oligarch. We are required by International Law to listen to anything they say, do anything they say, and give them money whenever they demand it, which is almost always whenever they are speaking.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

He's still the god-emperor of basement dwelling, crypto & NFT bro incels.

Other than that demographic, no.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I bet there are people who don't think Trump is crazy enough, and want Elon Musk to "fix it". 🤡

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

"The ONLY problem is that they didn't go far enough."

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

No, and since he got kicked out he shouldn't really be in a politics related community.

This is opinion and one I care very little about

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago

"manosphere"

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

When he says people will die from this, I sincerely hope that includes him.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Elon couldn't tell his ass from a hole in the ground.

The guy knows less than nothing about anything. Why anyone, anywhere, listens to Elon's "thoughts" is a real mystery to me.

[–] pyrinix@kbin.melroy.org 45 points 2 days ago

How many people have died to your Tesla vehicles, Musk?

772, asshole

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

So anyone who isnt a straight white christian male is obviously a DEI hire right?

But hey dont say he is racist or sexist because that means you dont want free speech.

Seriously fuck this nazi pos

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago

Elon doesn't care if people die. He's just saying words to get a reaction.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And Elon was qualified to “fix” our government?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Remember Elon Musk knows more about production than probably anybody else on this planet. /s

Which is probably the reason that in Denmark 30% of his cars fail their first mandatory security check at 4 years. And in Germany 17% fail their first check at 2 years. Previously unheard of bad results in both countries, even the cheapest cars are doing better!
And his rockets keep failing. And his FSD is nowhere near working yet, and his demonstrations of his fully automated robots are shown again and again to actually be remote controlled.

The guy is a megalomaniac, which some people confuse with being a genius because they are stupid.

[–] thecaptaintrout@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Can confirm first hand the FSD is actually working decently, my musk-fanboy brother-in-law showed it off at Christmas. Kudos to the engineers involved, must be easier when muskrat is distracted so they can actually get work done. Still needs proper regulation and Musk out before I'd purchase one though.

IIRC, Tesla and SpaceX had people dedicated to distracting/minding him so they could get actual work done. Can't find source at moment, if anyone can link I'd appreciate it.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Just because you can drive a few kilometers in it doesn't mean it works decently. Both FSD and Autopilot still have the stupid phantom breaking problem for no apparent reason. And that's when driving on normal roads where there shouldn't be any problems.
FSD also has problems detecting some forms of curves with safety rails. These issues appear under normal conditions that would appear optimal.

So don't claim the shit works just because it has anecdotally worked for you and your brother in law, because Tesla FSD is still not approved for actual self driving, even under optimal conditions.
And the reason it isn't approved is that it doesn't work well enough.

IIRC, Tesla and SpaceX had people dedicated to distracting/minding him so they could get actual work done.

LOL I wouldn't be surprised. 😋

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Ass loads of people died when Trump was in charge during the pandemic but there you are standing right next to him in the next election. The bigots love shouting their bigotry from rooftops to an American populace too stupid to get it, they even join in.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

Proven experience matters when lives are at stake?

So when are you stepping down from SpaceX, Tesla, and Starlink?

[–] Veedem@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

No one, and I mean no one, in NYC gives a shit what this guy thinks.

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 16 points 2 days ago

When will people learn just to ignore him. He has no credibility and no knowledge in the matter. He ruins all he touches and steals or buys other people's ideas and work and claims them as his own.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

I don't believe Elon Musk is qualified to use up all the oxygen he uses daily tbth.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 days ago

Possibly the most glowing endorsement she ever could have asked for. It convinced me that she is smart, qualified, and absolutely the best person for the job.

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Another obituary I cannot fucking wait for.

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dear Musk's special K provider, please please do the world a favor.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We need him to Pull A Chandler.

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

That will be a good day.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The guy who said social security was a ponzi scheme.

This dude is very willfully ignorant and apparently can't even use Google.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not "willfully," just ignorant.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

I would argue it's willful.

Nothing wrong with being ignorant. It's pretending you aren't and refusing to spend the effort to educate yourself.

I sure am ignorant about a lot of things. Like I have a h.s level understanding of physics. But I don't go around telling a phd physicist how physics actually works.

I wouldn't know. I don't know.

If I want to open my mouth about their work, I need to be an expert at their level or STFU.

I choose the latter.
