An interesting strategy. I'd have paid to go watch it at the cinema. No way in hell am I getting a sub to watch it though.

Same! I'm allergic to DRM. I will watch it though :)

I have access to the service because I have a family member with it but I'm still probably going to pirate it out of principle (and because I don't want 800 ads in my movie)

I was just looking yesterday to see if they finally gave the original series a proper remaster for blu ray. Nope. Still a shitty HD upscale.

It's a digital production, there won't be a magical "someone found the original print" moment with it.

True, but that hasn't kept other digitally-sourced animations from rerendering in 4k for modern times. Takes a bit of work, but the fans would gobble it up.

Like it or not, it will be "re-rendered" with an AI upscaler and fans will gobble that up just fine.

From all the stuff I've heard about this new Avatar series and having recently watched an hour plus long video on Kora, it makes me want to rewatch all of Kora again because I'm genuinely excited to see if this Seven Havens series is gonna be good.

Honestly I tried rewatching Korra recently cause my partner had never watched Avatar so we were watching the whole thing. We couldn't make it through Korra, it was just painful. The Korra's dynamic with pretty much all the villains were fucking shit. The Equalists and Zaheer easily being the worst. Zaheer was the worst in my opinion. The Equalists felt entirely unresolved, and Zaheer just felt like an inconsistent strawman. It sucks cause the Equalists in particular were an interesting villain with a lot of potential, but they just dismissed it all by being like "oh the leader is a liar, so I guess we can just ignore the valid concerns and problems that birthed the movement in the first place."

I'm hoping the new show does better.
