they have actually done studies on conservatives and it turns out they actually like being abused. When the powerful wield their power you are going to be harmed but because you are inline with their goals you will be rewarded. You see it in their religion, you see it in their politicians.
The problem is all the things they believe in and follow are all grifts. They don't get that if the powers abuse them it's because they are being used.
