Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Hopefully someone will tear Trump's name off all the signs.

[–] etherphon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

"Hey look I forced my name on that building" is that really his deal, is that a big win lol? Does he know that most people have buildings named AFTER them, they don't put the names on themselves? It's not quite so prestigious.

It's still the Gulf of Mexico. It's still the Department of Defense. It's still the Kennedy Center.

He wasn't shot. He didn't win. He's in the files.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 54 points 1 day ago (6 children)

The only change I agree with is department of war. The US doesn’t do defense.

[–] jokerwanted@lemmy.zip 4 points 22 hours ago

I just call Pete Hegseth the Secretary of War Crimes.

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

We also don't officially declare war.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 17 points 1 day ago
[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To be fair, yes, it was originally the Dept. of War. It actually is more honest. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, yadda yadda.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When it was the War Department, it only managed the Army, the Navy had its own cabinet secretary & department, and the Air Force was still part of the Army. When it was all military forces were brought under a single department, it got renamed so it didn’t look like the Navy was being made subservient to the Army.

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Good historical context, thank you. I'm not American so I wasn't aware of these nuances :)

[–] Vupware@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I agree. It was odd seeing people get up in arms about that change.

[–] ExFed@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago

I see what you did there...

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 3 points 1 day ago

It is more about what we want the department to do than what they actually do.

[–] commanderschlepper@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Exactly. I'll never stop calling it the Sears Tower.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis Tower?

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Like how the Tappan Zee Bridge is now the Mario M. Cuomo Sr. bridge (they rebuilt it a while back, and its not named after Governor bad touch, its named after his dad).

CT re-did their signs, NY re-did their signs, but NJ being the spiteful bastards they are (love ya New Jersey, keep it up) still has the old Tappan Zee signs all over the place.

[–] finley@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I actually don’t know what it’s called now. It’s changed the names a couple of times since then.

[–] qualia@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's officially the Got Milk Tower now because mammals have strayed so far from the path that they need a reminder to buy white drink.

Title/false

Conservatives and their woke rebrands, too soft and sensitive to hear words

The board is dominated by Trump, but not every last member. Key facts:

  • The name is set by Congress and, just like the DoD, cannot be actually changed without an act of Congress.
  • The board's vote was only "unanimous" because they muted everyone on their zoom call who spoke against the not-on-the-agenda bullshit.
  • Trump is a sex pest rapist who either sexually abused minors with his pal Epstein or did something worse.
[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Until they just update the name on the building and Congress does nothing. That’s what their plan is.

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 55 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Someday the US will hopefully do an ancient-Egypt style cleansing project, where his disgraced name will be chiselled off of every edifice and building, save one, where a plaque sits below, spelling out the sheer disaster of his legacy; where people may read of his misdeeds, but never again need to otherwise hear or see his name again.

I hope in his last days he is told of how the world is already working to utterly erase his stain on history, to be forgotten save for its use as a cautionary tale.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And hopefully, when he dies, he's not allowed to lay in state, but instead is shoveled out with the rest of the toxic trash. We already have his epitaph ready.

Nuclear waste disposal sites

[–] SantasMagicalComfort@piefed.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's also the sign on my mom's bedroom door.

I find it rewarding.

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People had been thinking about long term storage of nuclear waste. Part of it is warnings that could last like 10,000 years, where context and knowledge of nuclear wastes has been lost but the waste is still dangerous. The text is part of the message that people have come up with for such warnings.

My favorite version is the gene-edited cats and accompanying folk song.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago

Mine too - ray cats FTW! The 10,000 year ear worm is worth a listen.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My tramp stamp

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

See also: Destalinization . This has all happened before.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah .... knowing America's track record ... after he dies, his name will be mocked and removed everywhere ... then in a hundred years (or less), there will be a new neo-MAGA movement that will revive his name and everyone will debate about his legacy all over again.

We're on to your dumb games America ... you can't be trusted any more.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

In 100 years in the South there will be statues of Trump standing with Epstein. They will say it's about heritage and freedom.

The memes will be, "Freedom to do what?"

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

They needed to chum the waters for all the new Epstein details flowing out

Grandpa Stinky is scared

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just hope that he's singularly obsessed with vanity projects and sticking his name on everything because he's going to be dead soon.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wouldn't that be a Christmas miracle?

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago

I believe in miracles

[–] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How long before he demands the building of mt. trumpmore?

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What the actual fuck does he even have to do with performing arts?

Might as well name some foundation "The Donald J Trump Immigrant and Transgender Rights Foundation."

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

He has this weird obsession with Andrew Lloyd Weber (especially Phantom) but I think that's it. Unless the weird obsession with the Village People also counts.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He's a con artist.

[–] korda@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

That would be a perfect renaming for ICE.

[–] ryrybang@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

What a weak pussy. That's got the name of a Democrat in it.

A true leader would name it The Glorious Trump Center for True Trump Arts and the Celebration of Good Trump Performances.

What a weak leader.

Any public money designated to the original name should not be allowed to go to whatever this new thing is

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Remember the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when the Ark burns away the swastica painted on the side of its crate?

[–] DCErik@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

In similarly important news, my cat, High Space Admiral Peaches, has renamed her litter box 'Donald J Trunt'.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

“How can I make this about my name, but not lose the brand recognition of the old name… wait, I know!”
