Alice along with her husband live at Chevithorne Barton, an estate in Devon, which houses the Plant Heritage National Oak collection.

This may be my dirty classist ways speaking, but if your house has a name on Wikipedia, then maybe you should shut the fuck up about class issues and maybe just jerk off on your dragon hoarde instead.

She is the great granddaughter of J. J. Thomson who got the Nobel prize for the discovery of the electron.

Can you imagine how fucking mediocre one has to be to start their life surrounded by such knowledge, with such an advantage, and not manage to be anything better than a little capitalist lapdog scribbling propaganda in bullshit newspaper .

Dude, this is good info. Thank you for sharing.

And that's not all, but I wanted to keep it short. The "her life" section on Wikipedia is actually hilarious, I'll paste it here.

Her paternal great-grandfather, J. J. Thomson, was awarded a Nobel prize for the discovery of the electron. Her grandfather, GP Thomson, was awarded the Nobel prize for physics for the discovery of the wave properties of the electron. Her maternal great-grandfather, William Henry Bragg, was awarded, together with his son, William Lawrence Bragg, a Nobel prize for Physics for the analysis of crystal structure by means of X-ray. Alice along with her husband live at Chevithorne Barton, an estate in Devon, which houses the Plant Heritage National Oak collection.

"She has 4 nobel prizes (one joint one) in her family, and she... Has a big house."

Now I'm low key wondering if she was switched at birth. Somewhere out there, some sort of physics prodigy in a family of complete dumb asses is still wondering, "How the fuck did I result from such dumb DNA?"

I know this is a joke and all, but just to clarify, I was implying a social advantage, not an hereditary one.

The assumption that "intelligence" (or in this case, ability for academic endeavour) is determined more by birth than by environment is not one I believe in, or am comfortable with, and is not what my initial comment suggested.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes it was a joke.

However, I do believe intelligence is molded by both DNA and the environment, they work hand in hand. The expression of DNA is impacted by our environment via eppigenetics. Our brains are built and developed by neurons turning DNA into proteins that become ligand gated ion channels and ligand gated GPCR receptors driving the electrical signals of neurotransmission and plasticity.

I'm not denying that at all, just arguing social determinism is a much stronger factor on whether you'll get a Nobel Prize.

The only war is class war.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 14 points 1 month ago

And we are so much weaker. Guerilla warfare is the only way.

Imagine writing this and still thinking you're a person

[–] forrgott@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Umm, I can't even imagine writing this and thinking, period.

It's basically a full on admission that you're pro theft from poor people. How the fuck did she write this and then put her name on it

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

She's not poor. She didn't care.

At first I was doubt.jpg, but then I went on the search engines and then found it. While the article is more tame than what the headline + meme portrays - it doesn't advocate to keep the Culture war going, it is advocating for an end to distractions - it's still some liberal bullshit about how "we shouldn't antagonize the rich". I mean, in my case at least, I don't want to antagonize the people behind the riches, but I'm going to point out how they act like imps and goblins every time we try to levy any kind of taxes against their riches, as if the only variable was that they worked hard and that is why they are rich.

Anyway, I cast my vote saying the meme is justified. Carry on.

[–] jafra@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well I for one would welcome class war instead of culture war, if the rich don't want to change their ways. Propagating it has to be a war is like "know your place, vermin!"

There's a reason they spend so much time trying to make every race wanna hate the others. If everyone from light peach to ace of spades realized the only color that matters is green.... well, thats not good for them is it?
