If you already have a PC you probably have no real reason to get one as you can already upgrade your existing PC for less (or more power) by reusing some parts. I suspect this is more for people that are looking to get into PC gaming or are currently using laptops.

Also, its just a PC. Loads of companies make PCs. I worked in one before, we had a staff count of 2 and the PC building was part time. Obviously valve have greater R&D funds than we did so they can afford to make their own custom form factor.

Brought to you by Valve. "Fuck you. I'm gaming"

The general point is that a closed proprietary system is seldom a better option than an open non-proprietary one.

Yeah, sure, "It's Steam" and "Gary is a good guy" (so supposedly was "Elon" about a decade ago, by the way), but Gary might have a heart attack and die tomorrow (nothing personal, Gary, I can happen to any of us) and then those with the closed proprietary system are way more likely to end up shafted by Steam's new "enshittification is the future" MBA management than those with the open non-proprietary one.

Ultimatelly it all depends on just how easy it is to wipeout the OS in a Steam Box and get a new one in.

I imagine it also has conveniences like hdmi cec and turn on by pressing a button on controller. Not gonna get one, but I think there are valid reasons.
