Jokes aside, science has in fact recently discovered that various "tree" species (i.e. they can express both forms of trees or bushes) can communicate astonishingly well via root and biome-systems.

Bah, hopefully more than a complete dumbass like me can come along and add real info to this placeholder factoid, lol.

So are vegans out of things to eat then?

Even if we discovered that plants feel pain to the same extent as animals, a vegan diet would still be the moral option seeing as an omnivorous diet requires more plants (via animal feed) than a vegan one.

Efficiency of energy transfer is lost very quickly at higher trophic levels.

Communication amongst organisms doesn't imply a significant amount of morally valuable traits surrounding consciousness. Fungi communicate and even cells communicate. Communication is just the sending of information

veganism is specifically about animal exploitation
