Just a thought: I created this community very quickly without giving much thought to the name...basically because I was basing it on the NaNoWriMo2 website.

However, maybe it would be better to break away from the NaNoWriMo branding? I could make it more specific to our corner of the internet. I'm thinking maybe FediWriMo.

Let me know what you think below. Suggest alternate names, and if there is a good one with a lot of up votes, we can maybe go with that one instead (but no Boaty McBoatface type meme names, please...).

I'd absolutely change the name. Mainly because when I searched for a writing month group, I definitely wanted nothing to do with nano. I searched for 'writing', and I think most folks would.

I've gone ahead and done a new banner and logo for the community, and changed the name to FediWriMo. There were a couple of reasons for this:

  1. I didn't want to keep using the assets from the NaNoWriMo2 website.
  2. The assets that I copied weren't laying out nicely.
  3. I didn't want to keep the name as (a) it was associated with the NaNoWriMo2 website (ie, it could look like there was more of an association, when all we're doing here is referencing their site), and (b) I am concerned about the association with the previous organization.
  4. I didn't know the origin of all the assets (ie, the font and the shield).
  5. I was concerned that the "NaNoWriMo" part of the name is too off-putting.
  6. I strongly feel that drawing the association to the Fediverse is important for our identity.

So, yeah, I was going to wait until Monday. But seeing as this topic didn't have any comments in over twelve hours, I decided to just move forward.
