loved that drum sound on startup.
That reminds me of my favourite startup sound, from Crunchbang Linux! You can't really find it online anymore, as far as I can tell. I'll upload it to Freesound and share it here later.
Sadly, I couldn't prove that the sound had no copyright (I assume it didn't, given its open-source nature...) So I couldn't upload it to Freesound.
I used to change them but these days it's usually just silenced on my computers. Changing system sounds used to be a great prank to do on someone else's computer. You could change their login sound so they'd go through however much more of their day without knowing but the next day they'd log in and get blasted with the sound of 'La Cucaracha' or a pornstar moaning, depending on your target.
i used to like the ones from winxp, prolly cuz i used the long time ago. these days i have none. not sure how i should even enable them..
Not exactly a terminal bell, but in my own phone I have replaced all system sounds with those coming from Doom 3 and Quake 2. Best UI sounds ever.
Plasma rifle cocking for display unlock is music to my ears.
Ha, in my phone I've just removed all sounds. I'm often at places where silence is better 😅
None. I despise system sounds on all my devices.
I have to use Windows at work so I've replaced the system sounds with some that are substantially less jarring. I've no idea why the defaults are so abrupt and uncomfortable.
On my phone I have toast popping up for my emails, a Garand ping for texts, and various silly things for messages from specific friends (often snippets of voice clips they've sent over the years).
That's an original idea!

I don't know why but I think the linux mint "woosh" when switching workspaces is hilarious
I like "silence" as my favourite sound.
@toothpaste_sandwich Right now I just have the KDE Oxygen sounds because I haven't set up any custom sounds since I'm not sure how to yet. I really liked the Wii & Wii U sound design though; they did alot of the work making the console fun even outside of playing games, even things like changing system settings & hearing the clicks & scrolling sounds. I would love to have a computer with similarly complex & fun sound design.
@toothpaste_sandwich On my phone I have several Wii sound effects for different notifications. Messages & emails have the Wii Message Board "new mail" sound, important notifications have the "update complete" & "copy data complete" sounds, bad notifications have the "failed to read disk" sound, & other notifications have the Wii menu click sound. The UI still has no sounds at all though because Android launchers never have sounds :(
I never owned a Wii so I'm not familiar with those sounds... I'll have to check them out! Shouldn't be too hard to create a sound theme around them, if you're so inclined.
