Reddit had a PM which is basically sending a Private Message, Lemmy has that as well but Reddit also had chat which I enjoyed because it popped up as a small window on the bottom of the screen and I could use Reddit and chat at the same time.

Are these similar in a way? Thank you for your help, I'm new to Lemmy but I'm enjoying my stay so far.

I host a private Matrix-Synapse service for my nerd herd (we still haven't gotten the call feature working on them) if you want to talk shop about setting it up for yourself and friends (yah, Homelab). I feel that Shildichat is better on Android, Element is better of fruit phones and desktop.

The secure chat option is something called Matrix, which is a separate service that doesn't integrate like Reddit's chat. Lemmy just supports being able to set a Matrix account as the place to reach a user.

Matrix is known as the modern, private IRC by some
