General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Don't ask for permission ... ask for forgiveness

The age old mantra of authoritarians and corrupt officials. What use is it to point out wrongs from the past if nothing will ever be done about it .... and worse will be repeated again in the future?

Please hurry up and delete your account, I want to test something.

How did you know they were going to do that?

[–] rimu@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We have someone who does it every day. Makes an account, posts lots and lots, then deletes their account.

Sorry for the late reply, but what do you figure they're doing it for? Or is there a trend towards articles that push a certain agenda?

I can see that it could be problematic, and that federated link aggregation platforms like PieFed and Lemmy are currently a little vulnerable to this, especially if they become more popular – just wondering about this instance!

I added some code to PieFed which automatically deletes posts by new accounts that self-delete. It worked so I had to use my lemmy.world account to reply.

That sounds like a fantastic contribution to the fediverse.

Sounds like suspicious behaviour. So removing and even tracking that kinda crap would be some great tooling!

Perhaps an addition would be something that notifies people that interact with the deleted post/user to let them know of the deleted accounts behaviour.
