In short:

A man with schizophrenia who set a Melbourne synagogue alight in July will be released from jail after months in solitary confinement.

Angelo Loras pleaded guilty to recklessly placing people at risk of death and arson following the fire at the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation synagogue.

What's next?

Loras will be sentenced to time already served in prison, and a community corrections order requiring him to continue medical treatment.

@Deceptichum this is somewhat horrific:

> The court heard Loras had been held in solitary confinement for 134 days, something the magistrate called "nothing short of disgraceful".

> "He's not been put in there because of any conduct on his part. It seems he's been put in there because of the concern as to what might have motivated this offending," Magistrate Thomas said.

Solitary confinement is enough to drive mentally stable people insane, and they put a schizophrenic guy in there because... They thought he was antiemetic? What?
