Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

Oh that’s an easy one Russia bought Trump and they have him by the balls.

Russia might have him by the balls, but word on the street is that Bill Clinton has a fair bit ~~in~~ on him too.

At least somebody is standing up to Putin. He engineered an internal crisis to sideline the US for at least a decade.

All WEF "Young Leaders".

It's a big club...

That's obvious, but is it true? Why would the billionaires accept the destruction of their source of power? On the other hand it's too convenient that any criticism can be shifted onto Russia.

If Trump is controlled by Putin then an impeachment is ~~essential~~ unavoidable. Without one, Putin's reported influence can only be part of Flooding the Zone.

Are you a troll

Billionaires have more power and wealth now than 5 years ago. Trump is handing the keys to the kingdom over to them. Now they have wealth and access to immense power and they are manoeuvering to make it permanent

Yeah, exactly.

The Billionaires are getting everything they want out of this arrangement. They're consolidating wealth, destroying the educational institutions in the country to keep people ignorant and poor, and jacking up the prices of everything so that it ends up creating a slave labor class across the whole of the country.

That's in addition to successful lobbying to start "corporate cities" back up (there's a very, very good reason and a lot of dead bodies for why we don't do this).

Also, keep in mind that Billionaires are notoriously greedy and short sighted. They will destroy the climate and ecosystem of the world if it'll give them a 50 year run where they get to act like kings, then fuck anyone who comes later.

Just look at Russia. The oligarchs gave Putin power and now he controls them. The simple hard truth is that the US government is much more powerful then any billionaire.

manoeuvering to make it permanent

How? They can control the US but they will lose the world if they destroy the creativity and drive of the people of the US, and of the people who want to become citizens of the US. If China becomes the technological leader, entertainment and finance will follow. US companies and billionaires will be as influential as French ones.

There was no need to control more. The billionaires have controlled the media and thus the outcome of elections and legislations. All behind a nice fassade so that it bothered noone.

Trump only makes sense as a distraction.

Sadly, they’ll also control one of the largest nuclear arsenals on the planet. They’ll remain influential no matter what

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Let's see how well that works if reform wins the next election.

Britain?!

Not the UK?

There's a difference.

The people of the country of Britain are not Russia's villain of choice.

The people running the UK corporation may be.

Specifics, Bob.

Smelly Guardian. Long time corrupted.
