General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

"I think it's a good thing"

"I agree with my right honourable friend"

The Government Responded:

Yeah, nah.

If it's actually going for debate doesn't that mean other parties can weigh in? I can't imagine they're all happy with it.

This definitely seems better than the usual process of just acknowledging them and closing regardless.

Not only other parties though, if your MP is a Labour one then you can go and yell at them about the Online Safety Act and tell them they'd better show up to the debate or there'll be a lot more yelling

Tories and Labour are both in favour. Reform say they aren't but I think that's just populism, not policy. Lib Dems are against overreach, but don't seem to have been clear if they think the OSA is overreach.

Are we down to 30 other seats?

I wonder how reform will weigh in

Reform will like it. They're probably already planning on how they'll leverage it further if and when they get into power. Any dissent they show will be purely performative and not hold any substance to help sway the decision towards repealing it.

Sad. I like them applying pressure on His Majesty's Government over this but I don't want these american puppets in power
