I discovered that game long after it was abandoned, and I love it. My dream is a version of this with a slightly modernized UI (especially since it was made for low-res 4:3 screen ratios), maybe more movie genres and mod integration for user content like planet coaster.

It was a real gem. I haven't gone DEEP on it before, but I've really enjoyed what I played of it.
I used to play this a lot. Somehow I had the creativity to make movies in the game back then. Even without knowing how to read English, and scrolling few dozens of scene template et cetera.
Nowadays I would consider that as a chore even if now I can speak English
This just unlocked a memory of playing something similar but it was pre 2005 and did not look like the screenshots.

It was 3D movie maker. I looked it up after I made the comment, and forgot to reply or update.
I remember it being janky as hell.
dude 3D movie maker was my shit. Glad to find another former movie maker stan - I used to put entire evenings into making stupid little animations. That was the game that taught me what it feels like to be completely immersed in a creative project. McZee still haunts my nightmares, tho....

I occasionally feel like I hallucinated that whole game so it's nice to know that other people have played it.
It seems I managed to block McZee from my memory. After a quick search, I'm glad I did.

That game was so silly and fun. Forgot all about it! We used to make fun little movies and overdub them using Sonar.
Man, every time I tried to make it run last decade there was one bug or another preventing me to do so. I miss that game.
time to go buy an old cow-colored HP computer off ebay just to make it work!
