To be fair to Nixon... some of those "press-down-and-twist" bottle caps could be really difficult to open while others wasn't. I remember old people especially complaining about them way back then - they were next-to-impossible to open for somebody with arthritic wrists.
They are rare here in South Africa these days - they've pretty much been replaced by the "line-up-the-arrows" type lids.
