Looks like Pierre Poilievre and John Rustad will have something to drink to.

He should go independent and stand up for his constituents against the elites in the conservative party.

Bye bye bye!

Wild!

Seems pretty unlikely then that he'd be voting on the budget right? In which case, unless the drugs have finally destroyed my cognitive reasoning, the Liberals only need 1 more abstention/'yea' vote to pass the budget...

I guess it depends when his last day is. The release doesn't say.

Polievre tweeted implying Spring. However, it does mean there's 0 consequence for not voting along party lines here (or even just abstaining)

Its an odd resignation. He made the obligatory "want to spend more time with my family" claim but then was careful to clarify that he wasn't leaving due to dissatisfaction and he's still part of the party til spring. So Im not sure why he resigned NOW and the actual reason for his resignation - if I had to make a wild guess there's a medical issue that he doesnt want to disclose. But the timing is still very odd because it plays into the typical "oh the ship is sinking" narrative.

So. There's going to be a by-election for his seat later? Does that mean the Liberals have a majority now?

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Unlikely. There are also some retirements from the LPC that are expected so a stable majority is not very likely.

At least he didn't join the liberals!
