I'm pretty sure we didn't get it in Canada until at least 1998, because that doesn't sound right to me either!

[–] theskyisfalling@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeh that sounds more like it to me as well. Although it was around that year that we got satellite TV in our household so more options were opened up to me.

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I think that's around we got a satellite dish as well, so probably the same story with me. We didn't have a lot of TV stations in rural Canada (no cable).

Not UK but I remember The Real Ghostbusters. I also remember the original Ghostbusters. It wasn't very good. But the people who made the 1984 movie had to license the name. The original was a live-action show from the 1970s, and the Ghostbusters cartoon is based on that. "The Real Ghostbusters" was the cartoon based on the 80s movies. The original had an ape (?) and the other, more popular one had Slimer. The original was more like Scooby-Doo in format.

We watched both of them.

I am but I missed half of these. I'll have to try to find em

Only Rugrats actually holds up. I was in my late teens in 1992. That was the only show on that list that was tolerable.

It's definitely the pick of the litter, from what I have seen. For Halloweeny toons I've been much more likely to reach for Courage the Cowardly Dog, Infinity Train, Owl House, Billy & Mandy, or Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. Though I do harbour a soft spot for the Beetlejuice cartoon I totally recognise it's very mid.

I don't know Infinity Train but the others you list are all good and Beetlejuice was a great cartoon for its time. I vert fondly remember that show.

My kid likes it, but even he thinks they lean on visual puns a bit heavily

I was a huge fan of Xanth/Piers Anthony so I appreciate a good pun.

Good ones, sure. But if I'm a ghost who can morph into a talking version of whatever noun I just said, I'm going to deserve every eyeroll I get.

By remember you mean being near 50 and every time someone uses the word boutique you are compelled to repeat "Shop til you freak, at the spooky booootique"?

Like that?

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 1 month ago

Why do you have to come at me like that

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The "real" Ghostbusters was on air in 1992 where?

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 month ago

USA Network. Cartoon Express had reruns after it finished in 91 for about 3 years. Then it briefly began again when Extreme was coming out, and a few more times after.

I completely forgot Count Duckula existed
