This is great, but we're seeing so much pushback even in left-leaning areas for ranked-choice voting in the first place, let alone combining legislative districts.

'It's too complicated!" "It's not the right time to change election rules!" "Voters are all used to FPTP voting!" Bleh.

I'm used to the current price of my municipal utilities but just this week I got a letter detailing how they are going up in price. Funny how being 'used to' something isn't an impediment there...

Labour and Tories hate these 2 words: proportional representation.

I found this once: https://electionscience.github.io/vse-sim/

Voter Satisfaction Efficiency (VSE) is a way of measuring the outcome quality a voting method will give.

Which led me to learn about STAR Voting: https://www.starvoting.org/

It seems to have some similarities to STV mentioned in the video. Interesting that STV doesn't punish voters for voting for a popular candidate.

Interesting that STV doesn’t punish voters for voting for a popular candidate.

But there are different methods to apportion those "excess" votes. Proportionally based on second choice, other runoff methods. Gets more complicated as you dig farther.

Star voting is a distraction.
