Welcome to Risa

All the pleasure of shore leave, none of the holodeck glitches.

Rule 1 — Be Civil, Not KlingonThis is a vacation planet, not the neutral zone.

  • No harassment, brigading, or trolling
  • No bigotry
  • Keep the banter playful, not hostile

Rule 2 — No Prohibited CargoSome things aren’t welcome aboard.

  • No spam or scams
  • No porn or sexually explicit content
  • No illegal content
  • NSFW memes must be properly tagged

Rule 3 — Keep It TrekPosts should be Star Trek memes or Trek-adjacent humor.

  • Crossovers are fine
  • Low-effort “unrelated” memes may be spaced out the nearest airlock

Rule 4 — Gatekeeping Belongs in a Black Hole
You’re welcome to have your own opinions on what counts as “real” Star Trek but forcing your view on others or pretending it’s the only valid one? That’s not the Starfleet way.
Everyone’s Trek is valid, from TOS purists to Lower Decks shitposters, and you don't get to dictate what is real or not for everyone.

If you see a post that violates the rules, or that doesn't inspire Jamaharon, report it so the mods can handle it.

Otherwise grab a horga’hn, order a Risan Mai Tai, and enjoy your shore leave.

Do yourself a favor and at the very least watch TAS "Yesteryear". It's a timey wimey Spock episode and it's fantastic. Better than many TOS episodes.

Over all, TAS is better than its reputation, which doesn't mean it's good, but it isn't too long either. It has its moments. Yesteryear is peak but others are worthwhile as well

I've only watched through TAS once so I don't really remember it clearly or have a strong opinion on it, but was it really all that bad from a story and writing perspective, or was it just kind of cheaply produced so people give it a harder time than it deserves?

Most of TAS is as good or better than TOS, story-wise. You just have to get past the animation.

The first two seasons of DS9 are good, though. It's unique among Berman-era Trek in that regard.

I used to call it the best Trek, until Lower Decks surpassed it.

I still personally call it the best trek.

I don't compare lower decks to the rest of the live action series. They're too different

How DARE you?! There are at LEAST 3 good episodes in the first 2 seasons of TNG. Well at least 2, probably.

The pilot. You are talking about the pilot

Measure of a Man is from season 2.

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Good point. I thought it was later

Seasons 1&2 of TNG have serious low points. But they are objectively not terrible. IMO these episodes are quite watchable:

Season 1:

  • Where No One Has Gone Before
  • Datalore
  • 11001001
  • Conspiracy
  • The Neutral Zone

Season 2:

  • The Measure of a Man
  • Elementary, Dear Data
  • A Matter of Honor
  • Peak Performance
  • Time Squared
  • Pen Pals (maybe... maybe not?)

I can watch these easily. But that's me. Feel free to disagree. The list could probably be extended with some tolerances added.

Ignore any Kazon episode and Voyager is just fine.

(Except that one episode where some Kazon decided to play with a replicator. That one was kinda cool.)

I like the one where Chakotay and Nog get stranded on the planet full of traps

[–] zewm@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Why is this so accurate?

[–] FlatFootFox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Enterprise Season 4 is an acne faced teen trying to figure out modern episodic/myth arc storytelling, but it’s 2-3 episode mini arcs are Peak Star Trek.

And the latest season of SNW is just garb*ge but DIS really gets better over time
