High battery usage? (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by Orygin@sh.itjust.works to c/summit@lemmy.world

For a few days I noticed my battery drained a lot faster when using summit.
Yesterday I had low battery at the half of my day. Checked android battery usage and saw summit was first. Some light usage with a lot of battery drained.

It seems responding to posts in my inbox dries up battery even faster. After writing my response, the app felt sluggish and 10%+ battery disappeared.

Today, I wake up, use summit for a few minutes and my phone is already down from 80% to 59%. Just writing this post, I dropped another 4% of battery...

Did something change to the app recently, or is my phone the issue? I'm using a fairphone 5 on Android 15 stock.

It is likely some endless loop pinning a thread of the app at 100%. I've seen it happen in the past, though not for a long time.

Do you have the device rooted? That'd let you run an htop in termux in split app mode together with summit, so you could see exactly when the load starts.

I don't have root so I can't check, all I have on hand is the android battery usage page.
Thankfully after restarting my phone it's fine again. Maybe answering this post from my inbox will trigger the issue again, time will tell.

If you have a reproduction, please let me know. I pretty much use the app everyday and have not seen this issue yet. Unfortunately without reproduction steps this would be difficult to debug.
