Yeah, some have absolutely deluded themselves into believing they're "one of the good ones" and they if they could just excise the "bad ones" then the good trans people like them will be accepted.
During Trump's first run I had a gay, Hispanic coworker who was all in for him. My wife's a brown immigrant and thought Trump was fine until she met me and I showed her things. Even so, a few weeks ago she said she wasn't worried because ICE was only taking criminals. 🙄
Seen 100 memes and comments on here where people think LGBT automatically means "good person". Nope. They can be just as stupid and evil as us straight folk.
Public media figures, yes. Individuals, rarely.

Honestly most of right wing hate for trans people boils down to sexual insecurity and fear of being seen as gay. So much of reactionary politics seems to stem from sexual insecurity, it's insane.
So much of their racism is basically 1:1 interracial cuckold porn, things like being against abortion and no-fault divorce coming from the view that they're "doing everything right" but that evil women want more and more, then my Gods the trans stuff. So much of that is they're terrified that they could finally manage to get with a woman and she'd turn out to be a "secret man" like that's totally how this works.
