oh god. i have some purging to do.
Showerthoughts
A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
this is why it’s important to scrub your post history periodically
That was such a carefully painted showerthought. Yea I'm certain -barring worldending events- our descendants will know us better than we do our ancestors. I have an ancestor named Gillette (early 18th century France) who was a matchstick vendor. I'm sure she would have posted some cool toots/reels about matchsticks lore
Yeah... I'm pretty sure my bloodline ends with me. It'll be a time capsule for other randos on the internet up until the account is purged due to inactivity or the instance dies, whichever comes first.
The way that Lemmy works, your history could be preserved long after the instance dies.
Already lost my original profile to my OG instance going down, so...
Right, but your comments will still exist on instances that opt to store them, plus the edit history even if you deleted them.
“What has two thumbs and doesn’t give a crap? (Points thumbs to self) This Guy, Oh Yeah!” - This Guy.
My great grand kids will know exactly how lame I was.
I don't think a single account of mine with writing will be known to my descendants. I switch accounts every few months, purposefully erase old ones, forget names and passwords, and generally avoid talking about myself. The only thing that I think will be able to be linked to me with writing would be my reviews on steam, lol.
These days it's not super difficult to track someone online based on writing style.
I do the same, plus strictly use a VPN and email alias, but I know that a determined enough person could track me. Although I don't delete my history on Lemmy because it's trivial to recover for someone with their own instance.
Great-grandpappy really did love "hentai girls" 4 through 7
Why limit yourself to the yuri when you can have the yaoi as well?
Heh, joke's on my descendants, they won't be born!
I don’t have any user profiles. Let the fools guess hehehe.
What about this one?
Hi future kids! If you tracked down this account you probably either work for the NSA or you're a super-talented hacker. So I'm either very proud of you or very disappointed.
Hehe my potential kids are gonna want popcorn for mine XD
