My uncle always tells, just before these came to his town, he bought "The Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite" on the back of "Two Princes" He hated the album and ended up giving it away. Whenever that song comes on the radio he tells that story. The record store didn't have a listening post.
That is the reason I know what these things are.

😁 I'll have to take your word for it, because even though I have heard that story at least 5 times now (possibly more), I still haven't heard the album yet.
Those machines were pretty cool, but even cooler was before that when we had music stores where you could listen to the entire CD at your will.
There were a lot of bookstores near us that did this in the early to late 90’s. They had CD players and headsets and a host of “sample” discs when you went searching through the albums. When you found an album in the stack you wanted, before it was the sample disc and you’d take that up to the CD player and could play the entire CD as if it were yours at home.
As if that couldn’t get any better, my dad once saw them throwing those samples away and asked if he could take them and they let him. Most of my music collection today are those CDs.
Meh.
I can do that at home now.
