I almost instinctively upvoted this on my other account, before realising I made the post.

Lemmy clients with multi-account support should allow you to lock your self to one vote for your group of alts.

[–] MrKaplan@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

that seems like a really good idea. I've had a discussion with someone we temporarily banned for upvoting their own content where they likely resorted to blocking their alt other account to prevent themselves from doing this. depending on the implementation, it could even be something like auto-detecting all the accounts you use and just warning you when voting to confirm you want to upvote content by another of your accounts, with a setting to disable these prompts or exclude certain accounts from it.

Vote multiple times. It doesn't matter. Ever since I've joined Lemmy, I've been throwing out up votes like candy because they're free, and they make people feel nice.

I don't tend to use any other accounts, but when I do, I just mass up vote shit without a second thought.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean, I voted on something multiple times on purpose once, and that got me instance banned from lemmy.ca.

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 months ago

Well, that's a bummer.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That’s a good way to get banned from instances.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Would you believe, it got me banned from Lemmy.ca.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 11 points 2 months ago

Ouch that would’ve hurt.

I got banned from the Linux.community without explanation where they deleted all my posts and when I asked politely what happened I received no response…

The worst part was that I was on friendly terms with the admin before this happened.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So instead of bots it's just a few of us with multiple accounts?

(Not that I do that. I'm old school. That shiz used to get you banned)

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Still does.

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong about occasionally accidentally upvoting a post twice using an alt.

Making a habit out of it could be a problem, but as long as its a genuine mistake backed up by the accounts voting logs I don't see a problem with it

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Irelephant was caught voting 4 times on the same content.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's not what I'm talking about in this though.
I did do it once intentionally on a post, but that was a mistake (mistake as in I shouldn't have done it), and I removed the votes.

This is more about juggling alts in general.

I don't know what's the worse, the lack of title or the fact you used 4 zero width spaces when you only needed 3.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I am an incredibly uncreative person.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

This just reminded me to not take upvotes or downvotes seriously, thank you.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 3 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Is something wrong with my internet connection or something wrong with the threadiverse?! Why can't I find the title of this post?? Why??!

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I can't even select it. It is so weird...

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

inspecting the webpage, I see the title is made up of four zero-width spaces (\u200b is the unicode).

Here's what it looks like in the web tools:

Here they are in a code block:

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 3 points 2 months ago

This is some dedication to literally nothing! Thank you for this technical explanation.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’m experiencing this too.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I couldn't think of a title, so I put several invisible unicode characters as the title instead.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I feel better to hear that. I felt that my understanding of the threadiverse was breaking away. Very nice effect. Very freaky but also very nice.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 3 points 2 months ago

Please stop :( Why are you bullying me?

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I was so uncreative I had to get creative.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I couldn't think of a title.

[–] omniman@anarchist.nexus 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

does vote determine the position / exposure of the post , if no then why sweat

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It does, especially on small communities

Edit: OP also got banned from an instance for vote manipulation: https://lemmy.ca/post/50545875

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

While I did get banned from lemmy.ca, that's unrelated to this post.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, I didn't mean it in a way to picture you in a bad way, just wanted to point out that votes can have consequences

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

That makes sense, I just said that in case someone got the wrong idea

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I saw that thread from earlier. Recursive chewed you up good.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Well, that's not what this post is about, but yeah.
