The white Europeans who settled America and conquered the West “believed they were forging a nation—a homeland for themselves and their descendants,” he said. “They fought, they bled, they struggled, they died for us. They built this country for us. America, in all its glory, is their gift to us, handed down across the generations. It belongs to us. It’s our birthright, our heritage, our destiny. If America is everything and everyone, then it is nothing and no one at all. But we know that’s not true. America is not a ‘universal nation.’ ”

Fuck this dude.
Signed, an actual American.

Why has the author of that article decided to sereptitiously add "white Europeans" to that quote.

Just put what he actually said. Just put the full quote. The mf said "they" in the part that was ACTUALLY quoted. Surely that "they" had an antecedent a few sentences before, yes??? So put that! I'll decide for myself if what he really means is white Europeans.

They built this country for us.

I think you'll find it was largely the people they enslaved who did this.

That a sitting U.S. senator should make such a speech without shame or pushback by his party highlights the extent to which it represents where that party now stands.

This is the point to take home.

That's RIGHT! They FORGED a Homeland and that's OK but how DARE Brown people ALSO try to Forge a Homeland here where WE Forged a Homeland FIRST! WE killed the NATIVE AMERICANS Fair and Square! NOT Brown people!

Do note he's very clearly referring to White anglo-saxon Puritans. If you're of Irish, german, italian, spanish, french, Eastern european, or any other descent except white Anglo-Saxon Protestants he also thinks you don't belong in this country. They'll turn on you too.

I don't care for violence, but I'm starting to think it has its uses...

It has worked against Nazis in the past, but it took a whole bunch of armies and a lot of people dying. In the end, though, fascists set their own rules: only violence counts, not reason or argument or appeals to their better nature. Only power and brute force mean anything to them. So they have to be dealt with on the terms they have set.
