We were looking for a thriller or mystery genre movie and heard Substance before. I did not expect a body horror film 🥲 It's little bit like a Black Mirror episode as well. I think it's effective, it's just dragged out too much,, 2 hours and 21 minutes is just too much. Otherwise I can respect the over-the-topness.

Has anyone seen it, what do you think? Especially curious how it would be to see this in theater. Some parts were really hard to watch.

Loved it personally. Modern and daring, with a fresh celluloid gore aesthetic and a take no prisoners approach. Great performances too. I know some people couldn’t stomach parts of it, but I felt it conveyed the right amount of genuine sympathy for the inner struggles of its very flawed protagonists along with anger at the system that profits off them.

It was well written and acted, a decently fresh idea, great music and whoever edited this movie deserves something because there's so many cuts and close ups and it all is quite smooth, flashy and bold.

I thought it would have been an excellent short film. I don't mind extreme style choices, or even extremely overt themes, but this one was too much for me personally.

I liked it, but yeah, it should've been 2 hours max.

I don't want to watch it again, however, and I'm not really squeamish (saw Toxic Avenger unrated last night, for example). Substance was fine for one viewing.

I liked it. I agree it could've been a touch shorter. I think Demi did an impressive job.
